It did seem strange/weird

Yep, security frisking people, no cans allowed, but we got round that one :cool2:, some side curtains closed, then progressively more until only a very small gap for an entrance with security bunched around it and looking spooked.

All very urban not relaxing at all.

Having read the entire thread, but based entirely on Mark's post above... I wanna go next year:D

Sounds fantastic.

Is there any provision for someone without an MV () to come and camp? I assume not, judging by the lucky dip the camping seems to be, but thought I'd ask.

I'll just have to stowaway in the back of a Jimmy or something instead!

You can camp in one of the fields not to far away from the show and still have access to the show when it closes to the general public.

"Saturday evening was spent in the beer tent. Was it me or did anyone else feel a rather strange atmosphere that night. I didn’t feel comfortable so left with the Ladies and Han’s in tow."

Yes have to agree , Adrian , John and myself didn't get up to the beertent untill 23.45 ish , had a couple of beers and left shortly after you and the girls , was nothing like friday night ... couldn't explain why though.. had they had a tip off ? ... normaly the atmosphere is one of the most laid-back you could ever find , watched some of Kellys Heroes opposite the USO on friday night :cool2: .. then got in the half-track and drove a very happy crew back to the campsite at silly o clock ... sorry we did try and be as quiet as its poss to be in a half -track . :D .

Had a very good show putting on a small display from the back of the WC54 then taking it back in every so often when the showers came through. Took the missus, my sister and my brother into the arena on thursday morning for the jeep see-saw and was amazed to find only one other jeep had turned up so had a bit of fun with a whole arena to myself, then tried the see-saw and discovered the brakes weren't really up to it but managed with a lot of clutch-sorry uncle-got some good pictures. Best of all was Phil Benham letting me take his half track around the site now I really want one- just waiting for the numbers to come up.

Top marks to w+p for the extra toilets and the fact they were open early.

RE fire issue, I think all entrants at ALL MV shows should have a working fire ex.

They were certainly better than last year that's for sure. Mind you, the portacabin loos were getting very smelly towards the end and the terdis loos were almost full.

I even caught a woman squatting round the back of them at 4am one morning with her trousers round her ankles. I've never seen someone move so fast....:rotfl::rofl:

Talking of the blue turdis. What the hell posses people to bang and try and open the door when its clearly in use.

Other irritating activities that left me somewhat speech less at times.

Pinching all the loo rolls Wednesday morning, yes you were seen. Taking a dump on the seat and then wiping ones arse on the door. A trail of ****y toilet paper strewn out from the door trailing down the road.

I do honestly wonder at times how someone’s total lack of personal hygiene is deemed acceptable.

Another thing that was a little inconsiderate was people constantly leaving the water point taps on.

Those that enjoyed to USO Shows this year may be dissapointed next year as they may not be there in 2011.. just posted on the WW2 Forum..

Im late on the band wagon with this thread I know, but just wanted to say that I very much enjoyed all your company and the 4JAS lads were great escorts as usual.

Slightly upsetting news that the USO Shows 'may' not be appearing next year. I think the W&P Show got annoyed that we were nicking all their punters from the beer tent. If we do have problems with getting permission I shall raise hell and start a petition I think!

They would be shooting themselves in the foot if they do, I went to the USO 'do' and it was great. There is huge scope for a war time themed evening event at what is basically a war themed show. Not everyone wants to get mashed up at a generic beer tent with it's associated goings on. The beer tent music isn't to everyone's taste and I imagine most of the USO visitors are those who would prefer not to spend an evening standing trying to shout a conversation to your mates.

The beer tent will I'm sure still get it's regular attendees and good for them...there's probably thousands on site in the evening...and they wont all have the same ideas for a good night out.

If indeed beer tent numbers are down, then perhaps the organisers ought to think why that is and address what they are offering rather than take the choice away.

they could also look at there prices over 3 pounds for a larger in a plastic cup is just greedy and before certain people start talking about overheads etc , in can be done , recent show called bells and bugles beer was 2.50 a pint, and lets face it your standing in a tent , not a pub.

How 'big' is the USO bash?

I'm sure there were a couple of hundred there, I'll guess at a 20' by 20' dance floor (I didn't use it myself:D) plus a small beer tent (open sided towards the dance floor) the USO stage, a mobile refreshments lorry (someone will fill in the correct details as my knowledge is not strong there) plus a plethora of bunting, lights and tables and chairs.

Oh and a really good atmosphere.

Didn't get there this year but we usually make a bee line for the USO as its the best evening entertainment by far with an excellent atmosphere. The only spoiler in the last couple of years for me though has been the frankly dreadful singers that the neighbours opposite had on who were too loud and really not fit for public exposure... odd given that their displays are so good.

There seemed to be a chronic clash of styles that just ended up spoiling both for me :embarrassed:

Has to be more to it then a lack of revenue as a) even if you spent £20/head on beer = £4000 - not sure what the margins are on beer but it isn't a lot. b) as stated earlier - not everyone who was there would go to the main beer tent - which is awful c) there will be a cost to the USO to put this on.

Maybe politics are involved??
