A few years ago there was a similar incident in Reading to a memorial to the Afgan war in the 19th century to the Royal Berks Regiment. The plaques were replaced but the originals were never found.

If the old boys caught them it would be enough - they probably wouldn't ned our help.

In maidstone a few years back, a scrote tried to rob a bowler hatted gent on the high level bridge near Maidstone Barracks station. Held him up at knifepoint. The former Commando broke his arm and frogmarched the little sh@t into the police station.

Going by today's crooks the one who pulled the knife would claim he was innocent and that he was attacked ! or protest that excessive force was used on him and sue for his injuries .

Indeed the thing that happens in the Netherlands.

Beating up of a armed guy who robbed a supermarket by threatening a 15-16 year old employee by other supermarket employees was a big poohaa. The police charged the employees with using to much violence.

Our late Prince Bernhard publically took the side of the employees and paid the fine.

In my opinion all human rights of the culprit are revoked when he threatened a girl with a knife to rob the place....

Harsh of me? Maybe...

But if those criminals go to jail they cost between 90.000-125.000 Euro's a year....and 70% return to crime after their sentence is over....
