An age thing ? social media.

Is it an age thing ?

I really have little time for social media and do not want to be part of Facetwitting and all the other stuff.

Maybe I am just an anti-social git, I hope not. It is such a shame when we are given links to Facetwitter etc, as I, like others, love looking at pics and stuff.

Please think of us poor sods who just make it as far as HMVF (which is good enough I say !).

Or is it just me.:red:

Time for cup of tea.

Iain, it is not just you, I will not get involved on them either and it is frustrating to come across links to information which can only be had by signing on to those sites. Lets just stick to forums!

Tea, excellent idea. Never FaceTwitted myself, never felt the need ...:cool2:

On the other hand E-Pay has sourced for me manuals and parts lists for my truck that was made 3000 miles away and (nearly) seventy years ago, and other chip-related stuff has enabled daily conversations with other owners round the world, so on balance.

Iain, just noticed you are in Aberdeen - kettles on !

Phew ! I'm not alone.

I have to agree with Ebay, I have found many parts and manuals I never thought I would ever get. But you have to keep an open eye and shop around, it's too easy to get carried away and pay over the odds.

For information this community just about covers everything and it's usualy a pleasant experience.

I have to make do with ships tea until Wednesday as I am out at Schiehalion/Fionaven just now then it's back to the Tarves area.

UHPHT wireline stuff here in granite central, but at dry feet at least. Watch out for those rotor blades.

I think the production batch for my VC 3 was 196 off. E-Bay sourced me a Parts List and Manual for that specific production batch.

I personally don't give a monkeys if someone I know has cooked some sausages for tea, or are about to leave for work....facebook and twitter are so clogged up with noise I could not be bothered. I think they have their place for those that have family or friends at the other side of the planet....I couldn't be ***ed.

There you go...just off to do some shopping, will post the list of things I buy when I get back, for all those interested.

I neither faceplant or twat, I do however read up on the social media accounts of anyone who applies for a job with us.

The office assistant aplicant who had loads of photo's of her and her friends drunk as skunks every weekend did not get a second interview. Another office worker started down the road to dismissal when his faceplant account showed that the family funeral he was attending was a boys long weekend of drinking and whoring in Amsterdam.

Remember the youth coordinator for the police who was forced to resign after her accounts were looked at by the press? Once on the web always on the web, people need to be more circumspect about what they put out there.

It could be said of me that it's an age thing but I don't have the time to spend on such irrelevances and it makes me wonder how people do find the time and why they would want to lay their lives open to everyman and his dog.

Facebook is spiralling downhill and they are hoping the addiction will keep it running. Interacting with your mates and families and space to upload tons of photos with clever and easy interlinking capabilities was good.

Why I think it is going down the tube is they keep trying to find new was to get cash, by changing privacy setting by stealth to allow more spam. Also loads of porn sites and hookers spamming everywhere, whilst I'm not a prude it supposed to be a family site.

The gaming part people are ditching and it is being replaced by online gambling as they believe this will raise more revenue.

Anyway you only getting old when you think rap is not music and that's something to be proud of :-D

Rap never was music its just shouting and some turkey constantly bashing a drum loudly all the way through. Just my opinion I didn't like it when I was a kid still don't

Facebook has a place it just might not be your kind of place.

All the pictures you upload to Face/book, twitt/er, you-tube and others become the property of the company hosting the pictures. Its in the small print for face-book when you sign up

Nothing for free they all have shareholders who want you're pictures and videos and behaviour on line for marketing purposes.

I use twitter, facebook, G+, Tumblr and some others I cannot remember just now and I LIKE to know when my brother visits Costa Coffee because I have not seen him for seven years due to the distance involved.

My friends are not the same friends that journalists sometimes appear to believe in. They are sensible people - like translators, business owners, artists, members of groups or courses or companies I belong or have belonged to, and so on. Their average age must be about 50, so they have had families - and many are now grandparents. My wife has about 300 friends on Facebook, most of them about 20 years old, her current and former students, and they still don't get rowdy, and we still get more than enough time for a life.

At the end of the day, my social media experience is a reflection of me, not what anyone else says.

Both can be useful -

Facebook for keeping in touch with family and friends, seeing photo's uploaded of significant events etc.

Twitter when used by bus controller to advise if a service delayed or cancelled.

However I certainly don't want a minute by minute account of anyone else life, which is what most peoples pages seems to be clogged up with.
