  1. My experience was several years ago, maybe 2016 - 2017. Based on what numerous people have said those who joined further back in time and have not attracted the attention of human or AI moderators have not subsequently been asked for ID.
  2. Proof of ID, age I presume. I can't recall if they also wanted something with address. I did not send so they closed / locked the account . I requested my record but they never sent. For some Facebook pages at the the latest few entries can be viewed without logging in. For others none. The latter total understandable if individual but not if a business, museum or similar.
  3. Regarding Facebook anything on there might as well be on Mars. Given their past history I will not give them my personal details, copy of birth certificate etc.

    Adverts !

I have just looked and I have the HMVF New (Default) theme. Using Firefox and Ublock Origin I have never seen any adverts on HMVF except the Allied Forces at the top of the screen. This is on a PC running Debian Linux but Firefox on a Windows platform ought to be the same. I never use a smartphone for anything not absolutely essential when no PC access - too hard to see and type on.
  5. Silver solder has a significantly higher melting temperature than 60/40 tin lead. Even if you have an iron with adjustable temperature it may well not go hot enough for silver solder. For now using 60/40 tin lead would prove you have found the problem. Then for reliability source a replacement. Alternatively source a small crimp jointing tube but before joining the ends with it also slide over some small high temperature insulation sleeving. Once crimped slide this over the tube so it will not touch adjacent windings.
  6. https://www.solway-aviation-museum.co.uk/?p=1633 Currently 12% of £60,000 raised.
  7. I presume then you had moved on to a static residence !
  8. Sad but I suspect the combination of Health & Safety and Insurance is a big factor. Increase the ticket price significantly in real terms and the number of visitors will drop. Even just index-linked many have significantly less disposable income. GDSF is not Glastonbury that is sold out despite the £355 ticket price !!!
  9. OT but interesting as I never knew this. I though that in the UK trafficators be they semaphore with a static lamp or flashing lamps has to be orange.
  10. 'If you fancy following the page, you can find it here: Facebook' Facebook & I are not friends. Hence I will be watching this thread for updates as and when you have the time.
  11. For hydrogen the first issue is the production, distribution and storage in the quantities required. If the energy source is not green or using a fossil there not is a step reduction in the CO2 and other pollutants produced compared to running a diesel engine one source of CO2 is simply being swapped for another. The second issue is the cost.
  12. If major investment on infrastructure had been started when the 2030 ban was announced it may have been achievable. Another factor is there is not even a plan never mind implementation to replace the income to the government / treasury from diesel and petrol duty. VAT at public EV chargers is 20% while unless it can be separated from all other use 5% from home / private charging. The Toyota technology seems good.
  13. I do not use Chrome at all. I have read that Google are blocking/disabling all adblock plug-ins / extensions. On both PC ( Linux or Windows ) and Android phone I use Firefox. I add the Ublock Origin extension. From the default I also activate Annoyances > Easylist Cookie Notices. I also have the Google Cookie Consent Pop-up blocker. I do not directly use Google as my search engine but indirectly by using Startpage as my home page. I only browse HMVF on my PC and have been totally unaware of any problem. There is the Adrian Flux or Allied Forces Ltd advert neat the top of the page, nothing else.
  14. Indeed. I use a more generic variation to cover non manufacturing tasks too regularly " He or she who never made a mistake never did anything!! "
  15. To me surprising that for a 1940's rather than a modern engine with the exception of a blockage that the exhaust make a significant difference to the running.
  16. Given engraved it may well be a Pantograph font. The logical one would simply be Pantograph regular. Have a look at https://eng.fontke.com/font/23694240/ https://fontshub.pro/font/pantograph-pro-download https://gravograph.no/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/software-fonts-catalogue-2019-02-v6-EN-web.pdf
  17. Given the ( ) do not line up with the text could the ) have been put into the engraver bed upside down to the left of the text and likewise the ( upside down to the right of the text?
  18. Commercially if the switch is single pole conventionally Live > fuse / circuit breaker > switch > bulb ( or whatever the load is ) > Neutral. Generally I concur with the posts above for the Plessey or any other connector to as an absolute minimum label to disconnect the supply before separating the connector and better still lock in some way that requires tools to separate. Additional safety would be an earth connection to the metal case independent of the mains input plug / socket.
  19. I wonder if oil can be refined for diesel and plastics without producing petrol? If not while I am 100% sure the oil companies will not be shouting "come and get your free petrol" how will it be used? Aviation and/or shipping fuel? Safe storage is a problem plus we know it deteriorates in storage. Diesel is safer to store plus I see there will always be a limited commercial market for back up generators and maybe vehicles. For military I can not see a green alternative to diesel. If hypothetically there were electric vehicles there would have to be field charging stations and if not diesel how would they be powered? Hence no benefit against putting diesel directly in the vehicle. If not 2044 by say 2050 I can see all petrol vehicles being reduced to a static exhibit.
  20. If back in the day what you need were standard sizes / threads any sources from building alterations or demolition ?
  21. Interesting ...... I would not have expected a significant difference at least from the major brands. For Chinese, Korean etc 'Ditchfinders' then less surprising. A neighbour bought a SUV just over 12 months ago. The dealer had fitted two Khumo tyres. My neighbour has just had 4 new Michelin Cross-climate fitted and was hoping to sell the two Khumo. However they were already cracking ....
  22. For the AC presumably a specific frequency too e.g. 50Hz, 60Hz, 400Hz. If not 50Hz for e.g. the UK a transformer from the mains would not suffice. Likewise for e.g. USA 60Hz.
  23. The balance between the numbers that the UK and USA at least initially send and Putin not upping his game by several gears ?? At one extreme, admittedly unlikely, Putin may think again about what he is doing. At the other more can be drip fed in potentially without the same psychological effect as one large batch.
  24. I am pleased to see all the extra work was successful given what you had done in around 2 1/2 years up to the drivetrain failure 3 months ago.
