woa2
I have heard a rumour about the 2012 show and wanted to find out if it is true. All the Battles are to be in the Arena only and the skirmishes in Monktons and by the Re-enactment areas are banned. Any truth in this? barrynevuk
I have heard this as well from 1 of the reinactment groups. Aparently a H&S issue with people watching from roads and tracks around the site.
Snapper
All the battles will be in the arena. It's a shame, because it added variety to the event.
lightweight
'Tis true - on the bright side my son's group will be doing a bigger battle than ever before, on the down side I probably won't be able to see him at that range....
ferretfixer
Rambo will be executing his own 'Battle' at W&P. Attempting to avoid a confronation with any 'Dodgy' Toilets!.........
cellstar
Just got my exhibitor pack today and the enclosed map shows all the big living history Re-enactment camps in the same places as last year. So does this mean it will be the same as previous years with, for instance, Kelly's Heroes battles in Big Monktons?

HotBed
so could someone tell me if there has been anybody hurt by the battles outside of the arena, or as usual its BSE overkill :-|
Marmite!!
so could someone tell me if there has been anybody hurt by the battles outside of the arena, or as usual its BSE overkill :-| Apparently (so I've been told) the council just happened to be walking past during the Kelly's Heroes Battle & were not happy with the amount of public blocking the road & causing an obstruction if an emergency vehicle needed to get past.. so all battles have been moved to the main arena.. only heard of reenactors getting injured during battle, both in & out of the arena.. HotBed
there should be a ban on all politicians and councilers attending any rally where people have fun as i thought BSE overkill
cellstar
I see that Snoozebox the portable hotel (made from ISO containers by the look of it) will be at the Hop Farm music festival just before War & Peace, I wonder if they will remain on-site for our show :-D
Lauren Child
Alas not, but I'm willing to bet there's a mrket for someone to do similar. http://www.mysnoozebox.com/events/index.html
lightweight
Why is it too dangerous to have the public stood in a road when there's no vehicle movement, but ok for 10 year olds with no road sense to burn round the site on quads after the show closes and vehicles are roaming the field?? Tony B
Are those boxes standard ISO? Ideal for the back of a MJ.

Indeed! I wonder if they paid the same amount of extortionate rates as I did the other year for the privilege!
Richard Farrant
Are those boxes standard ISO? Ideal for the back of a MJ. ???? A bit long for an MJ I would think, the standard ISO containers are normally 20 ft long :n00b:
markbg
Doesn't this mean that there will be even less arena runs for vehicles? It was bad enough last year ....
woa2
As the War & Peace area is getting bigger, couldn't they make 2 arenas on the site? Down the bottom of Monktons, for example, so it complies with H&S? How about that new field that has been opened now? It's large enough. Rik71
so could someone tell me if there has been anybody hurt by the battles outside of the arena, or as usual its BSE overkill :-| A reinactor was badly burned in 2010 when a charge went off in his hand instead of in a mortar pipe , everyone else in the area had ringing ears for an hour afterwards . This happened in the living history area when the reinactors were getting filmed . The cause of the incident was the cameraman saying your wristband is in view , this delayed the dropping of the charge in the pipe . nasty ! ArtistsRifles
At the May 12th briefing they said there was one battle scheduled for outside the arena - but only because it had been already planned last year. This will be the last one - in future all battles are in the arena!
cellstar
I wonder if this will include the 3 QF 25 pounders setup normally behind Ferret Row now being fired from the arena each morning? I hope not as I get the best view of these firing since I camp 10 foot behind them :-D
