    Fuel

One problem. Steam cars used Petrol to heat up the water to make steam, which is why they failed to catch on. If you used another fuel supply, like Gas, wouldn't that be taxed as well? I once heard about someone running a car on Chicken poo. Is this viable?
  2. Anyone know what an L1A2C Reflector Sight fits? No MoD markings on the sight or it's box, and all I have is a plate with 'Sight Reflector L1A2C O.S.1021.M.A B E Ltd' so I beleive it is British made but no RAF part numbers. Anyone any idea? I will try and add a picture soon, bit the sight belongs to my Brother and he hasn't bought it over to me yet.
  3. There is agood possibility that my Father-in-Law could be driving one of the vehicles. He was in the RAF as a Driver in the Desert at the time and he had some photos of these Armoured Cars. Unfortunately he has passed on now, so I cannot ask him. Are there anymore photos of the RAF Armoured Cars?
  4. Just been reading the replies about trouble starting up this year. I had trouble with my Ford WOT2 after its winter rest, which turned out to be a blockage in the fuel pump. Now OK and I can book it in for it's MoT next week.
  5. I use the aluminium trays from Dog and Cat food cartons. Very useful for keeping small bits in, and also for cleaning paint brushes and paint spayer bits in. Just throw away afterwards.
  6. I'm thinking of going on the Saturday, but as a MoP with my Son-in-Law. Anyone access to any cheap tickets?
  7. If you are doing an Oil Change, use a Cat Litter tray to collect the oil. They are fairly big and easy to use. Also, use cheap cat litter to soak up spilt oil on the garage floor.
  8. Some very rare vehicles in the parade. At 4:51 there is a Ford E01A car. Made in the US and shipped to Britain, modified for the British Government (900x13 tyres). I don't know of any in preservation. At 5:03 there are some Ford R01T Ambulances. I don't know of any in preservation, but there is a van version around. At 5:20 there are some Morris Ambulances. I know of only one surviving. At 5:42 is a Ford WOT8 Fire Engine. I've never seen a photo of one of these before. Very interesting film. Many thanks for finding it and posting the link.
  9. I have some family connections with the Laundry business, but I was not involved myself. The only advice I can give is :- 1. Do NOT get it Dry Cleaned, and under NO circumstances use a coin-in-the-slot Dry Cleaning machine in a Launderette. The fumes left can be Fatal, and there are several stories of people being killed by faulty Dry Cleaning machines when cleaning Duvets. 2. Treat the sleeping bag like a feather filled Duvet and look for a cleaning company that washes Duvets. They will have the correct professional cleaning machines and staff you need to do the job. Home washing machines are way too small and even those in Launderettes are sometimes too small. Best to contact a Laundry company that cleans Duvets to do the job for you, and phone around for a good deal. Hope this helps.

A Ford WOT3 and a Ford WOT2C in 2 of the photos. Haven't seen these pictures before. Can you tell me where I can get copies, please? Are there any more?

    Ford v8

Tony I've just seen a photo of a WOT6 being built in WW2 at Dagenham. You can see the engine and it is a very dark colour, not Black, but nearly. I should think it is a very dark Green, so British Racing Green or possibly Deep Bronze Green seems to match. The photo is on the rear dust jacket of 'Ford at Dagenham' by David Burgess-Wise. 12. Just thinking. I have heard stories about crates being buried on Newbury Racecourse when the Americans left - it was a storage dump in WW2. With the trouble this weekend about an Electric cable at Newbury Racecourse http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/horse_racing/9396218.stm I wonder if they will dig up any of those crates? I think it unlikely as I saw a report of the sale of used Jeeps for £300 in 1946 at a surplus sale in Newbury (source=Newbury Weekly News) so if they could sell the stuff, why was it buried?
  13. Chris Wilkinson had some once, but I don't know who is running his stock now. They were at W&P last year.
  14. I know you have to have been a member for 2 years to book in a vehicle, but I thought that IMPS members could walk in the front gate with ordinary visitors. I remember doing this in the late 1990s before I started taking a vehicle to the show. Just wondered if this concession was still valid.
  15. You could join the IMPS as a family and get in for free. I still believe IMPS members get in free at the gate - can anyone confirm/deny this?
  16. Yes, thats the one. Reason I wanted the info is that my Mother has some Midsummer Murders DVDs and I wanted the title to find the right one. Many thanks for the help.
  17. There was an episode of 'Midsummer Murders' on TV a couple of years ago that featured some old Military Vehicles. I think the plot involved a Military Vehicle enthusiast. Question is, can anyone remember the episode title? Many thanks.
  18. Interesting picture of a Ford staff car on page 4. It looks like it might be the far east, possibly Singapore before it fell in 1942? Anyone help further?
  19. How about including a hat or helmet with each one?
  20. Disappointing day at the auditions for 'Saving Private Ryan 2'. The Director was unimpressed with the wooden acting he was seeing.
  21. Government cuts in Biological Warfare are beginning to take affect.
  22. I have a set of BSF taps (Got them for my WOA2, but it doesn't use BSF only Whitworth or UNF/UNC). Yours for a small sum. I am coming up to Lincolnshire in April so you can save on postage. PM me if interested.
  23. I was talking to the Curator of a Surrey Military Museum last year and he told me that these days they only had Reproduction medals on show, and the real ones were locked away in the vaults as they had had burglaries and didn't want the originals on display. Joe Public can't tell the difference between an original and a good reproduction and the originals were available to genuine enthusiasts to view. It seems that most if not all Military museums now follow this trend. However, the Guns the metal was taken from to make the VC Medals are very much visable in the Firepower Museum in Woolwich.
  24. The battery plug looks identical to a Wireless Set 38 battery plug. However, a 38 set uses 150v/3v, so be careful. The batteries for a 38 set were manufactured by Ever Ready and Vidor. I would think you will have to make your own battery up or get a Radio Ham to construst a frame to hold new batteries or run off a 12V supply. Try asking the WS 19 group on http://www.royalsignals.org.uk/
  25. I have heard this before, but it was the other way around. A British fake airfield and a German Bomb. It was in a TV Programme about a Magician working for the Government in WW2 who developed ways of making things disappear. One of his successes was to make Cairo disappear by setting up a set of dummy lights a couple of miles away. Can't remember his name - anyone else help? Just found the chaps name - Jasper Maskelyne, who was in the Royal Engineers.
