  1. I have consulted some genuine Medal experts and the results are :- South African and some Indian Army Campaign medals were named, but not British Army medals. However, some Jewellers and Boots the Chemist did offer a naming service just after the war. The MC was issued un-named in WW2 but had the year of issue stamped on the reverse at the base of the lower arm of the cross (eg 1944). Hope this helps.
  2. The MC should be clearly marked on the back. What Officer Rank was he? All campaign plus war & Defence medals were not named, but I have heard of the wearer getting them named, but this is not Officially done. I am a member of a Militaria group with some Medal experts among the members. I will ask them further details and get back to you.
  3. WW1 medals were all inscribed with the recipents names and regiment. In WW2 they were not (don't know why, possibly an ecconomy thing). The only medals inscribed were gallentry and long service awards, etc. Also, medals used to be stamped, now they are laser etched.
  4. There is a WS62 mounted in an Auster in the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop.
  5. Thank you all for your advice, especially about a Solicitor. It will be very useful. My Mother is mentally OK at present, but I will have to think about selling her house and contents soon to pay for Nursing home bills, hence why I need the Power of Attorney. Again, many thanks.
  6. OK, this has nothing to do with MVs. I just need advice and hope that one of you can help me. Have you had any experience of setting up a 'Lasting Power of Attorney' or LPA? I need to do this for my Mother, and need to talk with someone who has done this already, for advice. If you have experience of setting one up, please PM me. I am in England, so I need UK law advice. Only connection I can think of with MVs is that my Mother was a Nursing Auxillary in WW2, and as she had a Driving License (Provisional) she was considered as a Dispatch driver! Many thanks.
  7. I think it's the spares/stowage box that fits on the end of a wartime 10 line telephone exchange.
  8. I once worked in North Acton in London and stayed in a house in Park View. My Landlady pointed out that the 2 houses opposite were destroyed during the Blitz and were rebuilt later and were exactly the same- just detail differences. However, my Landlady was still convinced that the Bomb had not exploded and was still under the road. Her Husband was in the ARP at the time of the incident. Also, how many wartime Bombs have been found on the site of the new Olympic stadium in London?
  9. I believe this is correct. On British Battledress the size should go in 3's (small medium large). Therefore size 10 and size 13 are for the same chest/waist but different heights. I agree about denims and smocks as these should be worn over a battledress and the size compensates for this. The denim battledress was meant as a working overall to keep your serge battledress clean.
  10. I've seen photos of Humber Recce cars with Brens on top with drum magazines. There is an example of a Bren Drum mag in the National Army Museum in Chelsea in the Dunkirk diorama scene. I beleive the drums came 2 in a wooden box.
  11. I had a similar ammusing incident last weekend. I am parked in Reading and sat in my car when a Woman reverses into me when leaving her place. No damage that I can see, but I ask her for her insurance company, just in case. She refuses, and starts getting irrate. I write down her reg number, and she says why don't you get the Police, then? At that moment 2 Police Community Officers walk round the corner and I ask them to help me sort things out. The Woman driver went suddenly very quiet after this.
  12. I've used Lincon batteries in Essex for 6 volt batteries for my WOA2. The batteries are working well and delivery very quick. They have a website to choose which battery you need.
  13. They could be for the Royal Navy Lanchester submachine gun. Any markings, date???
  14. I saw the report, it was in the 'Metro' paper, Monday Jan 17th 2011. Looks like they are trying to get funding for filming - have a look at their website http://www.abovebeyond.tv for details. Also, is the Jeep used in their test footage a Hotchkiss?
  15. The key fob won't unlock the doors (Don't think it's the Key Fob fault) so I use the key. Interior door locks work and rear door (It's an estate car) works if I use the interior switch only. The locks also make a cluncking noise for a second when I start to drive. The fault is intermitant as occassionally it works. Also if I use the key to lock the doors, it works properly the second time of trying to lock the doors. I looked at 'Pistonheads' and they suggested rebooting the central locking system, which I will try when it stops raining! Annoying problem..... Thank you all for your help and advice and the 'Pistonheads' forum suggestion.
  16. OK, it's not a Military Vehicle but I drive to events in it when I don't use my WOA2. I have a problem with my 2001 Ford Focus and I need a Very Helpful Forum like this one, but for Ford Focus problems. Does anyone know of a forum I could use, please? The problem is with the central locking. This forum is great for Military Vehicle problems, I just need someone to point me in the right direction to the equal to this Forum. Many thanks.
  17. I am driving the car, so you should see me.
  18. Next Monday, 17th Jan at 7:30pm, there is a programme on BBC1 South East called 'Inside Out' with a story about a plot to kidnap Hitler. You can watch it on SKY TV on Channel 983 if you are not in the South East area or on BBC iplayer for a week. They needed a Ford V8 vehicle in it, and I volunteered - hope it comes out OK.
  19. Thanks for the link, but it's a Wellington. The Bomber actually survived the war and was scrapped in 1948. There was a TV programme recently, and some of the surviving factory workers were interviewed, giving some interesting stories.
  20. You need a Y shaped cast metal adaptor with 2 sections of F aerial in each side. Seen these on QL Radio trucks but not on tanks.
  21. An 'F' aerial is the standard 3 section aerial for the A part of a 19 and it was also issued with a WS 38 and WS 22. Wartime ones slotted together, postwar ones screwed together. There is a 19 set group which could help you. Try their website on http://www.royalsignals.org.uk/

    Ford v8

That looks like post-war Green to me. Possibly from a vehicle re-sprayed in the 50s.

    Ford v8

I assume you are talking about British made Ford V8 engines. Ford engines were painted Grey pre-war, but went to Khaki Brown when Military vehicles went into full pruduction. I don't know of a date for this, but my guess is early 1941. The Grey colour was highlighted in one of Bart Vandeveen's 'Wheels & Tracks' magazines. In the Ford film 'Changeover' it shows vehicles being made, and these all have the engine the same colour as the vehicle. The film was made in late 1941 as it shows WOA2 vehicles but no WOT6 trucks are seen. Ford V8 engine 7037774 is possibly very late 1942, but data on this is sketchy at best, so don't rely on this. Not sure where the Bright Green colur comes from, but engines overhauled by Nordians in the 1950s and 1960s were painted a bright Greeny-Bluey colour, and Fordson Tractors were painted green.
  24. I got my paint mixed up by Warpaint in 2005. They should still have my details and I have just found the paint chip and its called Green No7.
  25. Question - Was your Loyd painted in Olive Drab or Dark Green? They are both British wartime camouflage colours and were both applied to vehicles. It's possible your Loyd was painted in Dark Green, as was used on my WOA2, and not Olive Drab.
