  1. It's a standard 1937 pattern Bren Pouch but made in Canada. The Canadian made ones had the loops for the 3 cartridges, the British made ones didn't - I don't know why.
  2. Main part of my Christmas this year was when my Daughter's Boyfriend Chris proposed to my Daughter Sarah this morning. Sarah said Yes. No Wedding date yet. Presents - I got a ticket for an 'Access all Areas' for the Tank Museum in April. Looking forward to this.
  3. Yes, I had this call as well. Unfortunately it came at a time I was having a call from BT about my Internet speed and I thought the scam call was BT. I realised the mistake after a few minutes and ended the call. They tried to phone back but my phone gives caller ID and I just ignored the call.
  4. I remember the Canvas Bucket thread on HMVF and the suggestion it meant the Driver of the vehicle was of a certain sexual persuasion. I have noticed recently that some cars have a small soft toy tied to the towing eye on the back. Question is, is this the same reason as the canvas bucket was used? Anyone else noticed this?
  5. I had a Champ once. It had a map pocket on the Driver's seat back but there was never one fitted to the passenger seat as the screw holes were missing. Was the extra pocket a field mod?
  6. All I read the recent thread about Lloyd Carriers and there being 22 in the world. I was thinking about other vehicles and the numbers that survive, so the question is 'Do you know own a vehicle where less than 10 survive in the world?' I will start this thread off with my vehicle, a Ford WOA2. I know of only 6 in the world :- 4 in UK (One of these is a WOA2A model, the only one I know of) 1 in Australia 1 in Czechoslovakia So, do you own a rare vehicle, one of less that 10 in the world? Can we get a list of rarities?

I have 2 experiences of Yoofs I remember. 1. I go into a Petrol station to buy 3 items. I add the prices up in my head to get the correct money ready. Yoof assistant uses a calculator to add up the 3 items and gets it correct on the Third attempt!!!! 2. I go into a Hardware shop to buy some 1/4 Whitworth bolts. They sell them but I couldn't find the correct length I wanted. I ask the Yoof assistant for Whitworth Bolts and he asks "Whats Whitworth?"
  8. I am looking for a new Battery Charger to replace my now very old model. It must be over 10 amps charging, preferably nearer 15 amps, and be able to charge 6 volt as well as 12 volt. Can anyone recommend a make/model I should go for and where to get one at a reasonable price? Many thanks.
  9. Thanks Ted, Many thanks. Robert
  10. Ted Nice picture and thank you for the reply. Is there any chance you could send me a good copy of the photo by email? It shows a Ford WOA2 in the picture, a particular interest of mine. I will send you a PM with my email address. Many thanks. Robert Davey
  11. I have just watched 'Heir Hunters' on BBC tv tonight. Part of it involved an ex-German soldier who stayed in the UK after WW2. There was a photo of some POW farmworkers next to a Ford WOT3 truck with the reg FUR735. Question is , there was HAEC and L72 on the driver's door. Anyone know what this means?
  12. I've been talking to friends and they all said Speedy cables in North London.
  13. A friend of mine, who wasn't into guns, used to use a Banana in a holster when he dressed up.
  14. Normally they snap just as they go into the speedo as there is a tight bend there. Can't think of where to get one at the moment but there are companies that advertise in classic car mags, such as "Practical Classics" or the "Automobile", that repair them. Last time I needed one I got it from Nordians, but he's gone now. You could try Belcher Engineering on 01379-898384 but I will try asking around to see if I can get any more leads. Robert
  15. Did the cable snap just where it goes into the speedo?
  16. I have found out that the long Bayonet on the SMLE rifle was designed so that an Infantryman could stand a chance against Cavalry who were sitting on horses (19th century thinking). Didn't work too well in the confines of trench fighting, though.
  17. I have an original Officers Dennison dated 1961 and it's 1953 pattern (I think it says 1953, but the 3 is a bit faint). It has a full zip and you can make out the marks where the pips went. I will try and get a photo posted sometime.
  18. No, it's not open to the public, but you can organise visits from clubs. How about organising a visit by your local MVT/IMPS/whatever to visit? Not sure of a contact name, but you could ask when you visit Arborfield - try asking Brian Baxter (mention my name). Robert Davey
  19. David The wheels, I believe, are pre-war Morris wheels (I saw some similar on a Morris van at a show once) so the hub cap could well be a Morris item.
  20. It's a good museum with plenty in it. It will be missed when the garrison closes down and the museum moves in a few years time. There is a bit on VW as the REME helped after the war in salvaging the company. They sell good baguettes and coffee there - £2.20 for a baguette and £1 for coffee. There is an event planned for June 16th 2012 at the garrison, but I don't know any details yet. When I hear something I will put something on HMVF. Enjoy your visit, but leave 2-3 hours to take it all in.
  21. I am clearing my Mother's house and I found a book with white mould on it, in the cellar. The book is special to me and I want to restore it and keep it. Does anyone know how to get the white mould off the pages and stop it coming back? If you need photos, I will get some done. Many thanks.
  22. I was taught to play the Tuba, and I was in a brass band many years ago. The band leader first taught me how to play a note by getting me to just put my tongue between my closed lips and he put a small piece of paper on the end of my tongue. I had to blow the paper off my tongue without moving my lips and is very like blowing a 'Raspberry'. This is the basis of making a note. You make the different notes by controlling your lips. It's not how hard you blow, it's making the air vibrate that makes the note. One tip - Make sure you have a good Silver plated mouthpiece and always keep it clean and sterile, for medical reasons.
  23. There is a photo of one of these tanks in 'Villers Bocage through the lens' and it shows the fake gun they had. The gun was made of wood to make the tank look like a normal one, but giving more room in the turret.

Well done, congratulations. I was reading in a newspaper that you don't have to speak English to drive a Bus and the test is done with an interpreter. Is this correct?
  25. Just seen this in todays (Friday 21 Oct 2011) copy of the 'Metro' paper. "RUSSIA: A mobile artillery gun used as a World War 11 memorial has been stolen and replaced with a fake. Officials noticed the German Sturmgeschutz 111 Ausf D, kept near Moscow, had been switched after renovation work." Anyone know any more details??
