rambo1969 Posted December 4, 2012 Share Posted December 4, 2012 Just to stir things up a bit......................................:shocked: Been looking at what shows to do next year. I have decieded that any show that charges mv owners, but not re enactors, I will not be going to. I cannot for the life of me understand why, we, as mv owners have to pay to get in any show when re enactors don't. After all, alot of re enactors go to shows in thier cars and we take our mv's which cost more in fuel. Plus we have the standing costs all year round of our vehciles, tax, mot, fuel and maintainence. I can sort of understand paying a small fee(£5) if the show is a club event and everybody pays, in order to fund the show. Your thoughts? airportable Posted December 5, 2012 Share Posted December 5, 2012 As some of you know I'm a Airportable fan and show them at local events kitted out, allso put on kit displays with mates as well. I for one dont mind paying a fee to folks who put on events. I can understand the blood, tears and sweat that orginisers go through usually 12months before the event so we have somewhere to have a cracking weekend with mates and hopefully chat with Joe public about our vehicles and hobby, and hopefully get younger folks intrested. I do know of events that folks have put one hell of a lot of effort into for vehicle owners not to turn up because the weatherman said it might rain!! One event this year I went to that happened, in my opinion only it was a late booking from a living history/display group that saved the event and helped turn it into a weekend to remember for all sorts of reasons. On the subject of cost of entering a show, I have friends into VW camper vans, we have a major event on our doorstep. Vans etc. as far as the eye can see, traders, food halls etc. etc. £35 EACH! (so my friend and is wife £70) for the weekend!!!!! VW's 20-23 MPG? LETS ALL SUPPORT OUR EVENTS IN 2013 WHILE WE STILL HAVE THEM. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Which the public don't pay to come and see. And I'm quite happy to tell a show organiser who runs a buissness on MY kit that to thier face. I know some will sob that it cost a fortune to set up a show, well that's thier problem, not mine. There re are a number of events that are organised by clubs of which I'm memeber or for a Charity that I support that I'll happily spend my money and spend my time to attend. timbo Posted December 5, 2012 Share Posted December 5, 2012 For me next year plans are as follows: Elvington Yorkshire wartime experience (hopefully not as muddy next year) War and peace Tanks trucks and firepower I take the point about paying for attending shows, it annoys me too when i have put so much money into my vehicles, transport costs, petrol etc, but I do have a certain amount of sympathy for show organisers when large numbers of people book in then dont turn up. I think there is an argument that a nominal fee encourages people to turn up, but i accept this my not be a popular view! I do think though that organisers should work harder to give exhibitors a little more in retur for their money, even if its only a plaque, good quality souvenir programme or similar. Mark, It was done on a VHS tape and sold, made by a chap called Eddie from Essex MVT area as I recall and titled Convoys, had bit about Normandy and Guernsey tours as well, must be over 20 years ago now. Rick W Posted December 6, 2012 Share Posted December 6, 2012 The local show i help out with at the museum wouldn't dream of charging for re-enactors or MVs, if anything the museum tries to give them something towards their fuel costs as a thank you for taking the time out to attend. Same goes for the classic car show they put on which has a huge turnout. Plus they offer the attendees free tea and coffee over the weekend. Free camping. I agree too, I will not, on principal, attend any show with a vehicle where there is a charge unless as Ray says it is a fundraiser. My local show not only pays fuel money but also supplies free vouchers for the bar. As far as I am concerned what happens at Classic car shows, tractor shows or steam fairs is irrelevant but having said that I have been to local shows of all these types, have been made welcome and no fees have been charged. I've been lucky enough to do a number of events in UK and Europe where basic costs have been covered. They have still ended up costing me money, but, the friends the memories and the benifit to others that have resulted. As the Ad says Priceless! This discussion has come up before, Why do we own (or rather have in our care for a while) Military Vehicles? Part of the resposibility is to those who and still serve. Good pub, good company, good camping, good entertainment, (well that's debatable, some of it is Karoake!) I could go on and on.......
