snowtracdave
We looked out for you Mark but , as you say , what was on offer wasn't very exciting and the cold got the better of us & we headed for home pretty sharpish .

Markheliops
I'm not surprised you didn't hang about. As you say - not much too see and cold. I was p---ed off but my poor old mate travelled all the way from Germany - Would like to think he will win the TM just on merit - distance travelled and all that. Markheliops
A friend bid on lot 155, Bedford MJ 4x4 Cargo Turbo Diesel, RHD, 28 KF 55, and WON My friend hasn't heard anything about the TM as of today. I would expect it has gone to a higher bidder. Most of the TM's on offer were - needing attention to say the least. I was chatting to one of the guys at Withams and he said the TM's are not in great demand. Many people prefer the MJ's as they are less complicated - less to go wrong - excellent off road and spares are easy to come by. I will say the road experience with the TM is better than the MJ but they do tend to go wrong more than the MJ's. Markheliops
Markheliops
Mark, He should know by know if he's won it or not! Chris You are probably right Chris - never mind - didn't have the parking space for it anyway.
sirhc
Mark, I heard they were going to auction off a load of trucks over in Germany quite soon. My guess is they'll go through here http://www.vebeg.de/web/en/start/index.htm Chris
abn deuce
I 'd agree with you on the poor state of those 432 what with trees or shrubs beginning to take root and every surface is rusting and peeling and what not doing that is broken or missing , makes you wonder just how long in years the stuff been idle!!! sabre
I ended up with a Leyland DAF 4 tonner, so I'll have to open a topic in the wanted section 8-) Does someone need transport from Withams to dover or the continent?
Markheliops
Congratulations sabre - Can I ask why a Leyland Daf?
Tony B
It was there? :dunno: Actually not a bad truck, at least bits are still available.
sabre
I know I know, a Bedford MJ looks much better, but we are (were) looking for a truck with sleeping accomodations to visit shows. So I think the Leyland is a better drive to travel with(?). Correct me if I'm wrong. I was looking into an MJ but I went for the truck in the best condition and to me it was this Leyland. Over here in Belgium, Daf parts are easy to get. Bedford parts ??????? I also saw that Leyland cabins are far more "rust resistant" than Bedford ones. Hope I made the best choice
Tony B
I would say you did make the right choice. MKs can't be described as the easiest vehicles to run. Just size alone the LDV is more sensible, not that that counts for much.

Tony B
IMPORTANT---- the latest MVT Windscreen has a health warning on the LDV. The right hand steering arm on 2 MOD vehicles came loose causing steering failure. I can PM you a scan of the piece.

Tony B
Sorry mate wasn't thinking copyright, I'll pm it. The gist is that that Abro & Dlo have issued a recall for Leyland Daf trucks 4 Tonne vehicles. 2 MOD trucks have suffered failure as the right hand steering arm on the knuckle came loose causing steering failure. The 2 bolts should be checked with a torque wrench to 254 to 310 lbs. this method is remove wheel and back plates. disconnect the bottom brake shoe retaining spring only, move shoe to one side to access bolts. The top bolts can be checked without moving the top shoe. the piece was put in by Rob Jones of MVT. Which raises a point. When the vehicles go ex service these recalls fail to reach a lot of owners. Maybe we should have 'This is what happened to me' section?
ferrettkitt
In the Windscreen magazine at the top of page seven above the story steering failure theres a link to Army Kit Magazine might be of help? Tony B
Not bad price, a lot have ben bought and used on rail contracts etc. They reckon anything under £10000 is a good deal.
