  1. Yep Marylyn Monroe in a Series 1 Every Land Rover enthusiast should work that it is a Series 1.....................even with legs like that to put you off
  2. Good grief!!! Used to go there on Cadet Force Camp in the late 1970's A desolate place then with very dubious latrine arrangements!! (That'll be a wartime Champ then??
  3. Comments maybe better pointed towards the organisers than on here????
  4. A real tragedy Maybe reversing vehicles on a busy rally field should have a steward acting as banksman?
  5. Yes there is one with a Scania engine, it was fairly straightforward and performs well PM me and I will let you have details of the owner
  6. Glad to know the system works!! The letter I send out with the MVT verification cert covers all that process And absolutely correct that no MOT is needed even if the vehicle is imported and this is its first registration (just form V112 or V112G for a vehicle that comes under testing and plating but is exempt) Would be interested to know where the info came from that it would need an MOT before registration...........there is nothing in the regs to say that. Fit for road is covered by the declaration you make on V112 and the fact that C&U regs and Lighting regs say a vehicle must be roadworthy before it is used on the road. That is the drivers responsibility Other posters are quite correct that HMRC are now very interested to ensure the correct duty has been paid on imported vehicles Even had a request from the owner of a Leyland Martian to issue a covering letter to say that it was built in the UK and was not built abroad and imported !!
  7. I dont think there was ever a "spec" for them They would probably be supplied by garage equipment suppliers I am sure that a robust cage with as has been said the wheel/tyre assembly slid in from the side will suffice No need for them now as 99.9% of modern commercials are on single piece wheels and are tubeless
  8. Try getting hold of a book called "Armoured Farmers" about (I think) 3RTR OOPs see someone got there before me.................a damn good read though, but not for the fainthearted, written by a soldier in soldiers langauge
  9. Now that makes feel very old!!! Do remember the demonstration you gave at Duxford of pulling a car in half with the winch?? Or was that a figment of my addled imagination??
  10. Now then!! Welcome to the mad house
  11. An International possibly?
  12. Might be an idea to try it on one of the Land Rover forums
  13. Not quite as simple as that The DVLA will only accept evidence from Glass's Check Guide OR Manufaturers records to change the date of manufacture However if this evidence is not available than they will look at each request individually What I suggest is a dating cert from the MVT (the DVLA state they will not accept this as the only evidence) as well as as much evidence to support your claim as you can find and I suggets this comes from different sources We have had some success with a Champ in a similar situation If you are unsure then either pm me or if you are a member of the MVT drop me an email to verification@mvt.org.uk
  14. Only because the local scally's were frightened off by the photographer!!!
  15. Greetings from another Prestonian And a Land Rover and Scammell fan as well
  16. Tony Thats been the case all along The issue is an ex military vehicle (for the sake of argument) will not have the date of manufacture recorded on the DVLA database only the date of registration, this is then the date the DVLA go on hence some of the issues with Champs I have just got the date of manufacture changed on my 1955 Series 1 Land Rover that was registered in 1963 (on demob) The returned V5 however still shows the date of registration as 1963 BUT the DVLA records show manufacture as 1955
  17. Not RASC but ASC Cant remember when the Army Service Corps was made Royal
  18. Have you got a dating/verification certificate from a club to date the vehicle? If you havent I dont think you will be able to register it Good advise about going to the local DVLA office
  19. And a Mack called Bulldog!!!
  20. YW registration numbers were issued by London County Council This would probably mean that it went into some Government run department As an example XO (London CC) was issued to NFS wartime vehicles in much the same way that XF was issued to post war AFS vehicles The sequence (very simply) of Army registartions were Pre War CivilianReg numbers some from ME series again Middlesex From late 1930,s a cencus number prefixed with a letter denoting th eclass of vehicle T for Tank or carrier, H for Tractor and so on From 1949 the two number two letters two numbers sequence The sequence XA-ZY were used to denote wartime vehicles, the sequence RA-RZ (excluding RN) were used to denote rebuilt wartime vehicles still serving
  21. Agreed about securing the axles rather than anywhere else
  22. Go to the HSE website and look for the Code of Practice for the safe loading of vehicles Everything you ever wanted to know!! Including the attached safetyloadsonvehicles.pdf
  23. Been covered on here elsewhere The DVLA are quite clear on what evidence is required for a vehicle that is already registered (has a V5) but was built before its date of registration (which appears to be where you are) They require a copy of the manufacturers build data or an extract from the relevant Glass's Check Guide (not the Glass's price guide) They do say however that if this evidence is not available then they will judge each case individually I do believe that the Champ records do exist but I dont know where
