  1. A vehicle has a "plated" weight. This is the gross vehicle weight allowed by law. It is not unusual for a vehicle to have a greater design weight than is permitted by law. It is perfectly feasible to "downplate" a vehicle that is to reduce its "plated" or revenue weight. This then impacts on the licence required to drive it or the amount of road fund licence that is payable In industry it might mean reducing the plated weight of an artic because it only carries a light bulky load, this then reduces the rfl payable It is also possible to downplate rigid vehicles, from a 14tonner say to a 12tonner. In our game it may be possible to downplate a Stalwart, although I really dont know how that would happen because it assumes the vehicle undergoes an MOT, how many of preserved Stollies are tested? (the comment about being over width is also very valid) Surely the easiest cheapest and most satisfactory way of removing one of the barriers to ownership is go and take a CAT C test. CAT C entitlement, no argument about driving qualification (may be a whole rake of other issues though to discuss with the chap from VOSA)
  2. Some of my piccies taken during a quick break from the ring events
  3. Only just caught up with this thread The GMC I had spun at about that speed, and you do think the thing will never start!!! However in your clip I would really have expected the engine to start given the time you were trying The thing I found was that you had to keep the ignition system and fuel system in tip top condition to give the slow starter a chance Have you tried to start it on the handle, it should really start after going over a couple of compressions
  4. Nick, never tired of seeing your smiling face in the arena :-D
  5. Great to hear some constructive comments!!! I will make sure that they are fed back to the organisers As for time of the parades there was an agenda on the side of the commentary point, but as someone says if you cany hear the announcments then it is very difficult to organise people and vehicles As I say I will feedback the comments and hopefully make next year (a three day event) even better (cant promise the weather though!!)
  6. Like wise dear boy likewise great to put a face to the name!! Great to see the Ferrets on Saturday, but wont GMC's make it round the ring and wasnt the owner of the FWD (albeit with the front prop shaft disconnected (suppose that must make it a TWD!!!) proud enough to show it to the crowd around the arena I could go on to mention the fantastic 101 and the Pinzgauer or the 6x6 Dodge, the DROPS truck, the ........................ Just a thought................. Is it the way now that you will have three nights free camping, entertainment in the beer tent, water and facilities laid on for nothing without giving something back to the organisers and the public who have paid to come in and will sit from 1100hrs in the morning till close of play round the ring waiting to see our fantastic vehicles in action????????? The military vehicle section was allocated an hour in the ring on both days (the same as every other section) and we struggled to fill 30 of those minutes Rant Over..........................Discuss

  17. May be of interest to classic commercial vehicle owners, they are quite a classic trailer
  18. I agree with Richard, defo 1950's 1960's four in line BTC trailers There only claim to fame is that they would tip over if loaded unevenly
  19. I owned a 15MU Scammell tractor that had come from the United Daries fleet and had been fitted at one time with a 12ton Sxcammell coupling. BRS also used a large number of these type of couplings, there use was not just limited to 3ton and 6 ton Mechanical Horses
  20. Dont think they are military They look very much like BTC (British Trailer Company) 4 in line trailers with Scammell coulplings on the dollies There was a 12 ton Scammell coupling, that is what I suspect these are
  21. Mine was black, as was one my brother restored in the early 80's We also pulled anotehr very rough MW out of a scrapyard (Molesworth) and that had a black wheel as well
  22. My MW had similar lights to Series 1 and 2 Land Rovers. Looked quite good, in keeping but still big enough for EuroBox drivers to see them
  23. At a guess they are Tractor Artillery Full Track Light AT-L JAAZ-M-204(Russian) Introduced in 1953 powered by a two stroke diesel I am sure though that one of the Cold War experts will be along shortly with more info
