  2. Just to cofirm again There is NOT an individual in the dvla who deals soley with ex military vehicles It is business as normal

As promised I have been in touch with the DVLA and have had a definitive answer from them this morning The general gist is that the same team are dealing with all historic vehicles (ex military included), so no changes there However there is a specialist team that deals with the registration of current MOD vehicles Maybe thats where the confusion came from????????

I promised earlier in the thread to drop a note to the contact I have in the DVLA about the person with responsibility for military vehicles I had an email back this morning to the effect that they were not aware of anybody with that responsibility, but were going to check and get back to me The plot thickens................................. Good news about the M38 (pleased to have helped) ....................the system does work!!!

There is already a shortage of drivers and this will get worse in September when all drivers must have completed the periodic training Whilst it is the responsibility of the driver to maintain his CPC the traffic comminsioners have made it very clear to operators that they must assist in every way they can and they will take a very dim view of operators who do not support the drivers The firm I work for (big yellow lorries with a three letter name) have put all of its drivers through CPC at no cost to the driver (in fact the days when the driver is attending his periodic training he is getting paid as well) I think that any driver who has his dcpc card will become an asset to any any company post 14th September this year

Its all to do with NOVA (notification of vehicle arrival) The HMRC need to be satisfied that duty has been paid on import (been done to death on here) Suggets you check the HMRC website and make a NOVA declaration...............you may find there is nothing to pay! Bit as the NOVA declaration has been made then the DVLA will issue a registration document
  13. This is the type of situation where the DVLA get bad press, however the question is who is at fault? The process is really simple and if you dont follow that process problems occur The first thing you need to do is to run a vehicle check using the link in an earlier post and check date of manufacture If the date of manufacture is 1974 then happy days it will be exempt next year (if the date is rolling) If it is not then you need to get the date of manufacture recorded on the database To do this you will need a letter of verification from a club recognised by the DVLA (unfortunately a certificate from Gaydon is not recognised by the DVLA, again not the DVLA's fault but Gaydon are not on the approved list) Once you have this you send a covering letter requesting the date of manufacture is amended, the verification cert from an approved club and I think your V5 They will then amend the details You can if you so desire request an age related plate, this however will not have any impact on whether the vehicle becomes eligable for Historic status as this is derived from the date of manufacture and not registration I actually think the registration number issued at the time of first registration is part of the vehicles history, that however is your choice As I say an easy process...............so dont knock the DVLA for not giving you the answers you need, follow the process and it will work

Well that was quick latest extract from the DVLA regarding registering a vehicle The MOT certificate can be a V112 or V112G if the vehicle is exempt So you are correct no need for a cedrtificate of insurance.....................you learn something every day (means I have got to change my letter again :undecided:) [h=3]Supporting documents needed for all vehicles[/h]As well as documents to prove your identity, you must also send: the cost of the vehicle tax the new registration fee of £55, if you have to pay it a current MOT certificate, if the vehicle is over 3 years old a certificate of newness (or declaration of newness for imported vehicles), if the vehicle’s new any documents you have relating to the vehicle - eg build plans if it’s a kit car evidence of type approval (if required) You must also send an insurance certificate or cover note if you’re in Northern Ireland.

Just looked at my last renewal, and yes it asks for an appropriate MOT test certificate In the box on the RHS of the form it saysif taxing at a post office" a filled in and completed V112 or V112G form if vehicle is exempt from testing" Presumably then when online you dont need one as the system checks it anyway Only guessing!!!! Havent a clue about the validation character................the form I have has not got one!!!
  19. The wording about MOT is something like a valid test certificate, well if you exempt the vehicle using either a V112 or V112G that is the valid test certificate!! Didnt even have to produce a V112 when I went online and taxed my Series 1, somwhere the system must know pre 1960 no test required!!

The V5 as I stated earlier does not have date of manufacture on it, this is only held on the database As the year of manufacture is 1966 it already qualifies for Hitoric Vehicle staus as regards road tax. The date is date of manufacture NOT registration You need to return the V5 to Swansea and amend the taxation class (wouldnt really bother with the change from 1966 to 1964 )

The V5 has a field for the date of registration and the date of registration in the UK It does not have a field for date of manufacture This information is held on the DVLA database and can be accessed by going to the DVLA website and running a vehicle enquiry https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla My Series 1 Land Rover (ex military) was built in 1955 but registered on demob in 1963 The V5 says registered 1963 but the online enquiry shows manufacture as 1955 I admit I did have to have that changed when the pre 1960 MOT exemption came in, again a painless excercise as I provided the DVLA with the info they requested.
  22. Unfortunately the local offices are closed so we are where we are! They quote 6 weeks to process the application, in practice they are taking less than that As I say if everything is in order then it works! You can download the paperwork needed from the DVLA website, I think I have posted it on here and I send a copy to each applicant with the verification letter
