  1. And in 2002 6 Years in the open has taken its toll
  2. A sherman with a lifeboat........how novel
  3. Looks like an M38 to me Ask him for the chassis number if it is an M38 the number should start with MC, The number should be on the plate attached to the dash, or to a plate attached to the front edge of the right rear wheelhouse If it is an M38 then only produced between 1950 and 1952 (USA contracts)
  4. Its obvious that the French dont have the same attitude to the dreaded H&S we do The first Autocar with no air/electric lines connested and the MP on the wing of the Dodge Tut Tut how dangerous
  5. If you are member of the MVT its a free service and allows you three verificications a year In my opinion the club concerned is on dangerous ground verifying everything given the comments in the guidance document from the DVLA
  6. Probably OK if the vehilce verified was a motorbike However the rules state "Authorised signatories should refuse apllications relating to vehicles outside the scope of their club" (DVLA form V765/3) I dont think the DVLA would be very impressed with a motorbike club verifying the age of half track!! Also not every club is recognised by the DVLA as able to verify the age of vehicles
  7. Ian I am the verification officer for the MVT hence my query Not all clubs are recognised by the DVLA to verify vehicles
  8. I thought Mack They did a double cab version as a searchlight carrier
  9. Many thanks for that The issue is that for my sins I am the MVT Verification Officer and am trying to date a vehicle for a member and am trying to build up some background info in case anyone else needs verification of date I will suggest that the owner goes to the RLC museum but it DVLA need a verification cert from a recognised club
  10. Believe they were trialled
  11. Wondered if anybody out there in HMVF land has any details about contracts and delivery dates for AEC Mk 3 Militants I am trying to work out when 88ET03 contract WV5299 was delivered, chassis number is 0870233 Any help appreciated
  12. Only on a motorway though 50mph Dual Carriageway 40mph single carriageway Unless a lower speed limit is in place Strangely though if we take the A1(2 lanes), speed limit 50mph A1M (2 lanes Doncaster bypass as an example) speed limit 60mph Strange thing the law!!! However there is an argument that LGV's are limited (by law) to 56mph then if they exceed this then they are contravening C&U regs (no one though has to my knowledge ever been prosecuted though) Strange thing the law!!!
  13. Does anybody out there have any details on Bedford RL chassis numbers?? I am after a build date for RLHC22410 I think I know what the answer is but would just like confirmation Thanks
  14. Yes Providing the vehicle is substanially complete , its the chassis number that is important
  15. Some pictures of the Malpas Vintage rally last weekend Some fantastic green machines, not many shows you go to have a Comet tank and a loaded Antar train!!
  16. Run by the Bedford Steam Club Have a look at their website
  17. Very formal there with the Christopher..............the full version is usually only used when I am in trouble "Christopher are you going to clear up all this mess!!!" and so on Land Rovers good for both up hill and down hill
  18. If you look at some of the early training films the procedure was to drain the vehicles each night and leave the rad cap off to signify the vehicle was drained (and the film also suggested that the engine should be turned over with the drain taps open to dispel the last traces of the water) In the morning after the bonnet blankets were removed the coolant would have been warmed by the fire prior to replenishing the system Its no wonder that when anti freeze was introduced it saved a lot of aggro !!!
  19. Either a Champ or a Jeep for the flat fens will work (just) However there is only one 4X4 if hills are involved and thats a Land Rover :-D Welcome and enjoy!!!
