  1. What meal was being served that that they were pouring something white over , was that milk or cream ? I could gather that they were having potatos and sauages ?

  3. Quite interesting Thanks for posting the information and the link . Had to watch them all . That would have been a major loose if that had indeed been thrown away !!!
  4. A labor of love , its not the speed you get the vehicle done in, its the results when your happy with when you say its finished ! Nice that you were able to pull all the parts and details together to put those beauties back on the road .
  5. You might want to post the question or search on the GMCcckw site as I know Dr. duce has answered the questions on re engining CCKW's and pros and cons as well as putting the 302 in to the cckw.
  6. You have had a handful there , Not many would have put so much attention and care into saving a vehicle, Well done .
  7. Its really starting to come together , Lots good work you have completed , Wont be long until its running again !
  8. A Very clean and seemingly well thought out collection , amazing what has been saved and preserved for the future are they as unmolested as they appear ? Thanks for sharing !
  9. Wonder if the brakes locked like one of the accidents earler this year . I hope he was taken quickly as it must have been beyond his control.
  10. Hope you will be able to see it all at ground level and confirm the details , Dont for get the camera !!!!
  11. 66 yrs and still lots of bits of it still there , I d have thought it would have been picked clean long ago . Thanks for sharing .
  12. The anticipation is Killing me ! can't wait for the first video of it cranking and firing up for the first time in forever , let alone when you put it in gear and it starts moving . Hoping that bank holiday isnt very long in coming !!!!
  13. so a air raid shelter , four gun pits and a control bunker you figure ?
  14. Thanks for the details , The details that stick with you are the ones you have the most regular use of over a period of time ,either you committ it to memory or have to keep looking it up again and again . Might seem trivial to you but its new and interesting to me .
  15. Thanks for posting the interesting photo's , interesting as in how Mother nature given time reclaims and transforms everything. On one hand I d want to let nature take it all back , on the other I d be the one to grab a front loader and a chain saw and uncover everything I could to push back the growth for another couple of decades. Just as well that its not my property.
  16. From what I recall the Americans did turn down the offer of British "funnies" at first but realised the error to late and there were not enough Built to supply the American needs for D-day other than the DD's which had been tested and adopted well in advance of D-day .
  17. In the CCKW manual they suggest using a fixed object to winch the vehicle too so as to place some load on the cable as its being wound back on the winch drum , there is also a split block that can be fabed that would mount on a vertical 2x4 which has a single bolt through a second 2x4 which runs upward at an angle from ground across the bumper to provide a drag load and guide that a person moves to feed the cable back on to the winch drum in even layers , these methods require two people to do as the WWII American winches did not incorperate a cable laying on system , I think those came along on the Vietnam era and newer vehicles.
  18. Even in WWII you still had a two weight rating system , as in the GMC CCKW was rated 2 1/2 tons cross country and 5 tons on improved roads . Not sure what the limits were in WWI but it would not suprise me if they had two different limits as well . I d think at least some of the roads miles back from the front lines would be paved be it cobble stone or something else that would let them load the trucks differently from those use where the road had been shelled and generally torn apart nearer the front.
  19. "Often wonder if all these modern new generation mill vehicles with common rail engines forced on them by daft emmision regs , couldn't all be stopped in their tracks by a hefty dose of Electromanetic interfearance .... simply fry the ECU and it will stop ." There are a couple of outfits here exploring use of either very high voltage spiking of electronics by use of a mat placed on the road that the offender drives over and triggers a jolt to the vehicle stopping it by frying the chips orby use by the police of going through the ON STAR system and disabling the engine by remote control and I think there was another that wanted to use directional beam of some sort to knock out the computer clips .Yes the newer vehicles are not going to be of any use if there were a EMP pulse from an high altitude A-bomb burst . Only the older non-computer vehicles would be able to run.
  20. Well done thanks for posting the link , I ll be spending a while looking at all those clips .
  21. So this was the first attempt at a drive in movie .
  22. I hope the Saracen was owned by the Museum as it has a flat front tire and that would not be a good thing to be driving very far on !
  23. If nothing is done soon , something worse that spraypaint will happen to this Historic structure while its not much it is a important part of the history of the Second World War.
