  1. a bit of winch help although I dont think the operation was run quite right as it would seem the angle the winch is pulling from could force the front of the Iltis into the bank not up it , am I right in thinking they should have used a log or other device to elevate the winch line until the Iltis was above the bank ? Something went wrong...
  2. Another clip that may also be Iwo Jima a mix of American aircraft , Japanese aircraft , coastal guns and Sherman at the end , there are several scenes that may be upsetting to some as they show dead bodies , the same girl appears at the end of this clip as well . Again as found on Youtube Something went wrong...
  3. No idea about the 60's woman shown struck me as a IBM customer service type .
  4. And I suggest that they should check out the " help identify vehicle" section there and if they know of a vehicle out of place and it is not already listed for a given movie they should post it on the IMCDB site.
  5. Clip from youtube showing scenes of damage to Shermans and of troop actions on Iwo Jima. Silent film. Something went wrong...
  6. Mash ,Thank You for the color photo's They are all new to me . I wonder what make the Motorcycle is ?
  7. As far as I know the studs are welded to a mild steel chain
  8. The GMC tires would be 7.50-20's not sure of the Defender tire size but if your serious chains can be shortened in length very easy , its the width part that most important . next is making sure the chains are secured with tensioners to keep them tight on the wheels and last to watch your speed while driving with chains the faster you go the shorter their life .
  9. Quite a shock when I saw the title of this thread!!!!
  10. At the end of the thread there is a link to another blog which has 106 photos of WWII in the Pacific and another set of 50 photo's from 1900's in Russia .
  11. I found this link to a blog with some very striking photographs posted on another forum that I haunt. Rather than removing only those that are Military related from the end of the series I thought it best to keep the series complete . Near the end are several Photos of the United States Army Air Force aircraft that I think are worth taking a look at . http://blogs.denverpost.com/captured/2010/07/26/captured-america-in-color-from-1939-1943/ These are taken from original slide photographs and have been enhanced of course but the original subject is worth something by its self . I thought the store window with the price of Oranges at .01 cent or grapefruit at .05 cents make one think how many bags of fruit did the picker have to gather in a day to get any kind of living income from !
  12. Looks like a fun vehicle to roam about the woods and trails in . Great to see all the hard work you have put into restoring it so throughly.
  13. You have come to the right place when it comes to others who also have that green fever , sadly after years or research and untold dollars ......the findings of all who have tried to cure this malady is there NO CURE , it only gets worse with time . Some of the symptoms can be reduced by the regular writting about reading about and viewing of other bits of Green machinery from around the world . Welcome fellow suffer have a seat and let the sharing begin.
  14. Thank you mcspool for the link to the collection I have not looked through all of the photo's yet but thought I d post one of the collection . With all the talk of HS and the dangers of growing up , how times have changed , Just imagine this being left for people to touch and explore !
  15. While it might have been fun with the smaller Spartan on sheet ice .....I just have to put this clip of a rather Large Bulldozer doing a pretty good slide down an icy slope Something went wrong...
  16. The level of detail is amazing , with the proper back ground it would be easy to mistake them for the real thing . The only thing that usually is lacking from such magnifcent wrok is the battle field wear , while mud or snow are shown I cant recall seeing things like grease ,oil or fuel stains . The vehicles lack dents scrapes or missing parts . This is just my thoughts and in no way putting any of these lovingly crafted vehicles down .
  17. Not at all they installed wooden bunks to support the hulls and keep the stable while being transported , after all if the craft were damaged it would be useless .
  18. A Very Merry Christmas and A Very Happy New Year to you and all the current or soon to be members of HMVF . To the rest Happy Holidays .
  19. Were the mirrors on any of the military vehicles of the time that much different in size? I thought most of the reasons lay with minimise the amount of glass and reflective surfaces to reduce the chances of detection by aircraft and enemy soldiers ,as in the sloped windshield of the Canadian military pattern vehicles, that many military vehicles operated at least the larger ones with a co-driver so there were more eyes to see things and to be spotters if need when manovering . Now if the question is should all vehicles driven on the road now have larger mirrors I say yes.
  20. Like you said if your going to do your going to do it right ! Lots of thought ,effort , blood and sweat going into such a huge undertaking ... not to mention lots of Money ! Well done its sure to last for ages now , a much better outcome then if it had been left to any other fate.
  21. Found this clip on "That will Buff out" it was also linked to Youtube so I m going to use that as the link , while its not MV related directly it does give an example of just how fast one life can be changed if your on the road in any vehicle doing everything right . It takes a bit to get to the point but you will know it.A real butt tightening moment. No information is listed with it on youtube by the poster and have not read through the comments yet but here you go . Something went wrong...
  22. I have no idea how a person could do so precise a job from scratch , he didnt even have a lathe ! according to the son . Not only looks amazing from the outside but complete interior details , even the tool kit bits ! gobsmacked !!
  23. While there were other things that might be used to tow things like the Federal Wreaker then the Ward LeFrance and then smaller the Diamond T as far as I know The U.S. Army didnt have any other vehicle like the Pacific . I dont know what the production numbers were ,I m sure someone will post that information .
