Grego
Does anyone know of a place to buy some replicas? I found one place that has them, but the shipping to the US at least is more than the item. Not to mention they only have 4 in stock. If someone is willing to sell me a demilled one I can design one in CAD and then I'd be able to have them 3D printed. I would share the necessary files for the whole community.
Topdog
That's a shame. I have one you could have had but it is slightly different - I think more modern, and I am also in the UK.
Packhow75
Look up "Trev Castings" on facebook - he makes and sells repro no80s. He is UK based though.
robin craig
What are you using them in might I ask?
Grego
Just to add them in the 2 bins in my Ferret.
gordonb
Some years ago I bought some from a friendly chap near Hastings. Made of wood, nicely painted and with real working tops. But too big to fit the dischargers although they fit the storage bins.
teletech
saw these, but it would be lovely to find replicas that would fit the launchers. If I had a good dimensioned drawing I might be able to come up with some, or even a good photo with a couple measurements for reference. https://www.pdhenterprises.co.uk/no-80-grenade.html looks like in later service there were trialed alternatives: https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/citations/ADA474314 Edited June 16, 2023 by teletech
Grego
I hear you. I'll be making some models one I get my hands on one. My smoke launcher tubes are dummies, but I don't know if they are the correct ID or not.
teletech
Mine are original and look to be 2-1/8"ID. This report detaining he testing of replacement alternatives and comparing to the old No.80 was interesting, especially looking at the tests where they shot grenades still in launchers. https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/pdfs/ADA474314.pdf
Grego
Interesting read! Thanks for posting it.
gordonb
A year or so back in time a chap on the Ferret facebook group did some resin grenades which do fit the dischargers but have rather delicate resin tops. Combine the two and you end with something good that can be handled without worry.
G8RPI
What aout these:https://www.tacticalgeartrade.co.uk/m18-smoke-grenade-dummy-model-kit-green.htmlhttps://wolfarmouries.co.uk/tmc-m83-smoke-grenade-dummy.html
Grego
Thanks for the links, but I'm looking for the No.80 grenades in particular since those are the ones used in the ferret.
G8RPI
I think you will find they are all very similar. The No80 has a slight truncated cone at base but that won't be seen when int the storage or discharger. You could turn up in wood or 3D print the base bit if you really wanted it correct. At least the head is correct and works.
