military james
i'm just find that part ...
monty_stubble
Excellent. On the one I've seen, the bit on the bottom is steel not brass (part no. 30, nut, front brake rod, adjusting). Any thoughts? Edited April 22, 2020 by monty_stubble
welbike
Think the all brass one above might be a repro? If the body that screws into the forks is not threaded for the cable adjuster it probably is. But impossible to see this way. Cheers, Lex
Ron
I know it's not assembled on the bike, but the rod should come out the other end. The brass spring box on mine is threaded for the cable adjuster (which was missing) But I've no idea if it'r original or repro as it was on the bike when I acquired it many years ago. welbike
Ron, could you check with a magnet please for the bottom rod adjuster? all the ones I've seen sofar were steel. Cheers, Lex
monty_stubble
So far so good.
welbike
Ok, but that part is brass!! (mine is chromed!) and the nut is thinner. Lex
monty_stubble
Won't be when I finish. 🙂 Just checking with a nut. I'll have to make a nut as I don't seem to have one the right size. Edited April 22, 2020 by monty_stubble

Bottom picture is from the brake arm side. Cheers, Lex How long and how wide is that spring?
Ron
Just checked my bottom nut with a magnet which is dull plated steel. It's looking more like my whole thing is original. I can't measure the spring, but obviously it has to fit in the spring box and I'd start with 1 1/2" and gradually shorten it to suit. military james
on my james the brass part is very original, the lower tube was broken, I adapt according, but the piece I just found was at Metal Magic, I bought it.
military james
my james in 2001 started looking for references, a double silencer, front plate support ...
wdbikemad
One of my ML's has an original front brake cable assembly fitted.........the adjuster on the end of the rod is steel Lex (as is the rear one)....the rod is steel and dull-cadmium plated.....the end connector on the rod brass....the part that fits to the fork brass (but dull-chrome plated) and the securing nut (of narrow width) also dull chrome plated.......

Ron
But that link is inferring that new James motorcycles are going to be built in UK. I haven't been inclined to click their "see more" link or "subscribe now" in case I get embroidered into a scam??? I've looked at this site a couple of times, but doesn't seem to even cover WD ML's? http://simplywizard.co.uk/ Ron
monty_stubble
It's probably going to end up like Arial and Brough, making phenomenally expensive bespoke motorcycles. Even more likely is Norton, where people get ripped off. It's hard to see how a domestic motorcycle company could ever compete with the Chinese in terms of production. Look at the once proud name of AJS - maybe that's what they'll do. import cheap bikes and re-badge them.
Ron
Nothing wrong with Indian Royal Enfield's I suppose? But the new 'Pegasus' is hardly even a nod to the WD/RE (Flea). Ron

monty_stubble
I went for repair instead of buying a new one in an effort to stay as original as possible. Question ... are all the mudguard stays riveted or are some blind headed bolts?
Ron
Rivets! But you can cheat with socket button head bolts and fill the hex in with body filler. You can buy them with imperial threads to reduce the shame a bit and even file the heads to a lower profile if required. welbike
Easy to rivet, just make up a suitable snapper to rest the head of the rivet in, and you won't damage the guard. Had to fabricate a bracket and rivet it on, sorry no pic's of that. Cheers, Lex Edited April 25, 2020 by welbike spelling
monty_stubble
Rivets it is. They hold no fear for me! I have a WW2 Mk VI Cockle, made by Warwick Aviation and spent many happy hours re-riveting while my wife, bless her was contorted inside holding the dolly. Like being shut up in a drum she said ... seemed OK to me?
