woa2 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Try Joe Hirst at St.Mary Bourne near Andover, Hampshire 01264 738278. He had a load a few years ago. He is a Govt surplus and scrap dealer. Quote
sirhc Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Jack, Try Ramco, http://www.ramco.co.uk Chris Quote
Snapper Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Yes, tell us, tell us, TELL US! please. If I did, I'd have to kill you....and Jack would then have to kill me. Net result: space taken up in the clubhouse mortuary. Messy. MB (:cool2:) Quote
Jack Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 Thanks Robert and Chris but no luck there! Yes it is for an airstrip for P51's..........:coffee: :cool2: And please no killing of Snapper - it would be frowned upon. Quote
N.O.S. Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Jack, S/H at £20 x 5,000 = £100,000! S/H in large quantity ought to be well under £10. But for that quantity you need to be talking direct to the manufacturers. Other dealers are Jackson or more likely Leavesley at Alrewas. Try Mabey & Johnson (the makers of Bailey bridging). They know that market and will be able to put you in touch with the right people I'm sure. Tel 01189 403921. If you buy new it will have a substantial resale value too. You could be selling it on HMVF for decades to come!!! Quote

N.O.S. Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Is it for a one-off job or ongoing use? What about hiring in including installation? (if landing a valuable plane it is as well to have some come-back on the installers if anything unfortunate happens) Quote
N.O.S. Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 The other people worth trying for a contact for psp would be Eve Trakway, one of the largest portable roadway companies. They must know where to get a load if they do not have it. www.evetrakway.co.uk Quote
Bodge Deep Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 may sound daft but what about Duxford? Quote
Tony B Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Sounds like it will be cheaper to lay concrete and then rip it up. What about a woven geo textile? they have improved remarkably nowadays. Bearing in mind a lot of WW2 aircraft were grass strip capable, maybe choose another feild. Quote
