antarmike Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 (edited) I have been looking at some of my recent posts and I am afraid I have become a grumpy old man. Maybe we need a GOM section on the board where I and others like me who have reached the GOM stage in life can post away, but which the younger more enthusiastic members can avoid and maintain their youthful innocence and optimism about the world and mankind! N.O.S. Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 So that's you and Catwezle so far, think I've got the same problem so I'd be up for membership (annual please, as life membership no longer represents good value for money). Or have our posts in a differet colour so they can be easily avoided by said whippersnappers! Quote
Jack Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Mike its just because we have had a bum of a summer - think we are all GOM - even the ladies I know are! Quote
M.Rimmer Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I'm 29 and have been a GOM for several years, age has nothing to do with it! Quote

antarmike Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 Just been out checking tyre pressures on Antar and Dyson for the run down to GDSF and I find whilst I was at Belvoir Castle someone has helped themselves to three of my valve caps... I DON'T BELIEVE IT!! I hope that the car they put them on gets nicked off their drive and burnt in the woods cos I can't see any difference... stealing is stealing... Quote
abn deuce Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Then you have to seperate that GOM into at least three levels of Grumpy the basic Grumpy old men ,then the Grumpier old men , then Grumpiest old men Although the details of each group will need to be worked out at the next Meeting of the Damn I m annoyed mens club . chevpol Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 have been a bus driver for 22 years(!), do I qualify? Mark Quote
antarmike Posted August 17, 2008 Author Posted August 17, 2008 then there is Grumpy old men, grumpy older men, and grumpy old ,almost to the point of dying, men Quote
79x100 Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Considering that we have to cope with cantankerous old vehicles, I think that we're a pretty good tempered bunch actually ! Quote
snowtracdave Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Friday night finally proved that the Mog clutch is completely u/s (tried to tow something & it didn't move  ). Had a look at the manual for clutch changing procedure - Disconnect , unbolt & tilt cab , disconnect pretty much everything in the engine compartment, find a crane big enough , unbolt & crane the engine out , change your clutch ( £300+ for good second hand one) then put it all back together . :argh: Quote
abn deuce Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Its never a good thing to have happen but once it's done you will know that at least the clutch will be in top condition for a long while . Quote
snowtracdave Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I don't know - I go and buy a truck that turns out to have spent the last 25 years with an enormous snow plough hanging off the front and I'm surprised when it turns out it's a little worn . :-D Quote
john wheatley (R.I.P.) Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Hi Grumpys, I was born old and miserable and have endeavored to live my life in a similar manner, do I qualify as a G O M ? Could we have a G O M smiley or is that a contradiction of terms. Regards, John. Quote
N.O.S. Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Although the details of each group will need to be worked out at the next Meeting of the Damn I m annoyed mens club . That's funny - the original GOM has just caused me to become a Damn I'm Annoyed person  Quote

Tony B Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 have been a bus driver for 22 years(!), do I qualify? Mark No mate that isn't a qualification, it's a job requirment! :shake: Quote
Snapper Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Being forty-nine and three months old,I find that I have been a GOM for many, many years - so do not fret, Mike. My wife and I noticed I was getting a little like and often as accident prone as Victor Meldrew some time ago. The phone ALWAYS rings just as I sit down to dinner. Things that don't break, do. The list is endless. I tend to agree with Gritineye and just get on with life. I actually find that now I am this great age that life can be so much more fun. People expect me to be stupid and juvenile and inept and a disaster waiting to happen. SNAFU. I love being a thorough pain in the harris. I have a reputation to build on. Enjoy. Quote
Tony B Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 It's nine momths from now when you wake up to the SAGA birthday card that it really hits. :shake: Quote
Snapper Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I know. Certain members of my family will make sure I get one. I can tell you where it will go as soon as it arrives....the shredder. I'm not fussed about the thought of being fifty. I ripen with age - but the idea of a cruise with Statler and Waldorf does not appeal. Quote
Tony B Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I'm not fussed about the thought of being fifty. I ripen with age you say that now. :-( Quote
Snapper Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Don't be such a grumpy old man. Wherever will this lead, young Mr B? Think of life as being like a rich tapestry rather than a moth eaten blanket. Live the dream Walk the Line. Think up other annoying metaphors. Drink more tea. :coffee: Quote
