Ron
For my G3 contract C5247 frames 845-4844 it has the springs. Ron
WD Flea
Heres the link if any one needs the bungie jumpers hope this helps. Chris https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BSA-M20-Lycett-saddle/274630671532
welbike
Yes, they can be ordered direct in the Czech republic, may be cheaper, and also the loose bungies. Lex
flyingfleasteve
Thank you gents! My G3 is from the same contract as Ron’s. So it appears the saddle may of been changed at some point in the bikes life. I have noted that my saddle is quite different on the front of it compared to the saddle which Chris kindly shared. It’s almost as if it’s been converted to take springs....? A few more hours and a few more jobs done. The current saddle frame and springs fitted, side stand on, speedo under construction and gearbox shell in place. It’s starting to look like a bike! Ron
Regarding the saddle, there is also another plate further back from the front plate to convert the 6 short springs into 14 longer ones. Ron
Chris Hall
That seat is almost identical to my 1936 Rudge Whitworth with the bungies.
welbike
Re. the bungy seats, note there were two basic types, BSA had 7 of them, and Norton 6, don't ask me why though! What is the number of slots on this bike?? (12 or 14?) Steve, did your pin drive speedo came with the bike originally?? if so, it's another pice of proof, that Matchless fitted trip speedo's to G3WO's. Cheers, Lex
Ron
I just counted the slots on Steve's saddle before my last post =14. Ron
welbike
Yes, I see now, and by the looks of it, the saddle has always been on/with the bike, so now we know that is right, also the propietry parts list shows 7 cords, now why did I cut up some saddle frames to make them into Norton ones??? But my p/l for your contract Ron, shows both the bungies and the springs???? Cheers, Lex
welbike
Ah, I see now, prop. p/l. is for 2 contracts! Lex
Ron
Ah hang on Lex. Your parts list quotes 35/G3/F60 with bungies. My list quotes the same number with springs. I'm now thinking that the springs they are referring too are in fact the two main coil springs. They just don't mention the bungies separately. In that case I've read it wrongly. Andrew Honychurch's original wreck had bungies. Ron
flyingfleasteve
This all makes sense now, thank you gents! Just the bungees to find! Ron your saddle frame looks almost identical to mine? Lex, I purchased the trip speedo separately I am afraid, it was not with the bike when I bought it👍
Ron
Yes we both need bungies Steve. Are you on the case to order/make some? Ron

welbike
Here it is, with pricing, but that's about 4-5 years ago. let me know how you get on, I also can get the metal ends lasercut, have the files for that, and the special tool to form them, then you only need to source the red striped elastic, JoB. had an address for that in the boating world. Lex anna.cingrosova@seznam.cz Price for 7 bands with metal hooks is 9 pounds a piece Do you need complete set (63 Pounds) or just elastics (45 Pounds)? welbike
Here a series of pictures how I did my Norton Big 4 saddle bungies, a lot of work! and you need to shorten the length of the cord by half, compared with the original sizes in the parts lists, as it's a totally different material and construction. Easier if you order it all ready made I guess?? Lex Edited January 2, 2021 by welbike Updated picture
Ron
Cheers Steve. As you say Lex, easier to get them ready made. Ron
79x100
The Norton factory records suggest that Lycett were not able to keep up with demand in late 1939 and Terry saddles were fitted to some machines, at random. Later, the Lycett elastics were completely discontinued due to the rubber shortages. The VAOS listings for Norton continued to show the WD pattern Lycett but even in 1939, most were being fitted with sprung Terry's. I'd suspect that either make could be correct on a G3/WO but there would only be one version from each manufacturer.

Ron
I saw your ebay link Chris. Thanks! Nice to know that we can just buy the bungies. As Rik just pointed out, it could well be academic anyway as we can't always rely on our parts lists. But with the evidence we have so far, I'm convinced that our 1940 contracts were still fitted with the Lycette bungie saddles. Ron
79x100
I think they should have been, Ron...it's certainly 'correct' but if a photo turned up showing a Terry, I wouldn't be surprised. My 16H had the Terry on it and there is no WD confirmation that the variation existed. Fortunately, someone at Norton liked playing noughts and crosses with coloured pencils.
