SaracenDriver
Montie, I have just seen your thread and can give you the following info: 1. I own a Mark 6 version 06 FF 12 - I have a full vehicle history if anyone is interested (plus loads of modern photos). It is in great condition and runs superbly. 2. I was a trooper in the Royal Yeomanry (Westminster Dragoons) from 1982-84 where I was taught to drive the Saracen, as well as the Ferret. The Saracens we had in Command Troop of the HQ Squadron were:- 80 BA 21 80 BA 52 82 BA 15 all of which were Mark 2 Command Vehicles. There was also a Saracen used by assault troop which was 30 BA 67. I have a few photos from this era if these are of interest. Please feel free to contact me at mark.vickers@ashurst.com if you would like any more info. All the best. Saracendriver, you just made my day! Thanks for all the info, none of the registration numbers you provided were on the register, now that has been corrected! I still would like to add photos to the register and will drop you a mail, but I am certain there are more Saracen nuts (hi Oily! :cool2:) that would appreciate if you would post some pics here as well. montie
Montie should not a new thread be started rather than posting into the build up thread? R Hi Robin, I started the Saracen gallery thread as well for pictures and photos. However, I am looking for more data to populate the Saracen register as only the tip of the iceberg has been uncovered to date.
montie
Finally doing a little work again, touching up the machine gun mounting and re-installing. When checking the parts catalogue, it does appear to be the mk 1, No. 4 version, although some some items shown on the catalogue are not here like the shoulder piece and some associated hardware. I still need to refit the handle(being oiled) and make up a periscope which must have been removed by the security company guys and who then welded up the opening. Anybody have pics of the machine gun fitment, please?

montie
Been fiddling on the Saracen. When taking the head-light apart, it looks very different to any other saracen lights. It is a "Saracen 88" but does anybody have any information on this type? It has a clear (non-frosted) cover that must be removed before getting to the head-lamp. The globes are also of the halogen type.
JoelH
They are the same headlight cases that are used on Leopard 1 and the M2 Amphibious Rig. - They have been on sale on eBay in the past (cannot see any on there now). Can you measure the diameter of the lens? Edited October 10, 2010 by JoelH

montie
Hi guys, Excuse my ignorance but I have no idea what a Leopard 1 or a M2 Amphibious Rig is. I will go dig with search on the forum. The lens diameter is 130mm or just over 5 inches.
montie
You guys are right! I have found a couple of pics on google and Youtube. JoelH
Hello, Glad you found a video of the Leopard - its a great tank. It must be a standard fitting - I will check when I get to work tomorrow and report back. Cheers, FB
