  1. An update - it appears the library has been saved but with some cost-saving measures introduced. http://www.prospect.org.uk/news/id/2015/February/6/Campaigners-save-Imperial-War-Museum-library Andy
  2. A simple means of identification is to type the individual NSNs into Google. There are several sites that will give a description of NSNs. For example your power input module NSN above comes up as a filter assembly, which sounds right. Andy
  3. Just a thought, but have you considered what solder to use when conducting repairs? I suspect that the IBMU uses old-fashioned lead solder rather than the new-fangled ROHS stuff. Andy
  4. Bizarre, as it was one of the standard exam questions when I took my H test. 20mph on pads, 5mph on bare steel. Andy
  5. Welcome aboard - whereabouts in Devon? I've got some vehicles on the Devon/Cornwall border, near Launceston. Andy
  6. My sister used to keep goats on the farm where my vehicles live. One day I found that all the safety tags on the fire extinguishers in the barn had gone missing and I scratched my head for a bit until I realised that they had been green in colour ... Andy
  7. And don't forget that vehicles can be either positive or negative earth, but the practical arguments for isolating the earthy terminal still hold regardless. Andy
  8. Just a standard interstart cable, methinks? Andy
  9. Thanks Terry, the 12 core information is easier to find and understand. The problem with the 7 core is that the connectors are used for a number of different things in different places. Andy
  10. Brilliant - thanks Iain. Maud had a harness intercom when I got her so I'm updating to ANR and adding a 352. Andy
  11. In the absence of the elusive pukka EMERs, I'm producing an "imagineered" Clansman installation for Maud the Stalwart and need to make up the appropriate cables. Does anyone know what cores do what in the assorted seven pin connectors between 352, IBHA, IB3, Initiate Box etc.? Do I actually need all seven cores, as I've only got six core cable to hand? Andy
  12. This is the relevant page from the Stalwart ISPL which I believe to be the same filter. Note that it shows a blanket-type element with a spring. On my Stalwart the spring was in place, assisted by a curious variety of incorrect and/or missing washers. Banisters managed to produce the correct parts in double-quick time. Andy
  13. Ditto - the one I played on in Tavistock has now been restored to running condition! Andy
  14. There should be a spring holding the filter against the top of the housing (if it's been correctly assembled!) Andy
  15. Welcome aboard Mike, and we've now got one and a half aircraft carriers! Andy
  16. Do you keep getting the same Dancover storage shelter adverts at the top of HMVF as I do? :-) Andy
  17. Looks like some kind of barrel bore gauge to me? Andy
  18. I don't think the entire site is fake, just some of the advertisers. There seems to be some genuine entries from RR Services, for example. Andy
  19. Another Chieftain, this time on an HET heading North on the A3(M)/A3 junction at midday today. Interesting that it was an HET, not a civilian transporter. The barrel was missing and the mantlet had been blanked off with a piece of wood. Looked in pretty good condition and slightly muddy, suggesting it had just been recovered from somewhere. Perhaps heading up to Bordon? I did debate asking if they'd accept a cash offer ... :-) Andy
  20. I can't help thinking this using WWII tanks is just some sort of propaganda exercise. The "separatists" don't seem to have any problem sourcing modern Russian armour ... Andy
  21. The crew probably wouldn't be that happy either ... Andy
  22. The most important thing for any B series engine replacement is the maximum rpm. Most modern diesels don't rev high enough to match the B series, so unless you want to be doing 20mph flat out you'll have to think about changing gearboxes/transfer boxes or having new gears machined. Not then quite as cheap a conversion as it first appeared ... Andy
  23. Just getting it registered should be easier than finding its true identity. The MVT should be able to give an approximate age to keep DVLA happy. Andy
