Looks a nice bit of proper engineering on that shaft and the bearing carrier. Bet it wasn't cheap.

When something looks right, as this does, it should go without problems for a good while.

Just one question, what about lubrication for the bearing on the shaft? Is it just a grease it up regularly job? It'll be running more or less all the time at full engine speed, the original input shaft bearing would have been well oiled form the gearbox.

Just noticed the grease nipply on the bearing housing. :red:

well i am happy to anounce to u all that the cummins is finaly IN :D

Had a very productive two days engine is in, crossmber back in, front axel is connected to the truck once more and the radiator is back on and it all looks like a truck again.

Engine went it easily. The only trouble was getting the front axel pin back in. Ended up picking up the whole front end of the truck and lineing it up that way .

Main job this week is to get a propshaft made up. Distance from the engine to gearbox coupling is 11 1/2".

pics are as follows sorry there are not more of them .

Pure Scammell porn....... Looking superb. Any reason why you took the pivot out to remove the front axle instead of removing the U bolts from the spring? Its much simpler cos then all you have to do id drop the shoe back on the spring:cool2: good looking front mount. We must have video of the first start even if it fails to fire up....

Took mine for a spin today today down to the beach to walk the dog, through the middle of Porthmadog ,then found the axle pump had failed to prime up:-( Had to pull the pipe off an suck the gear oil up to the pump:-X Took the dog for a walk and came back to find a crowd of people gatherd round said truck. spent half an hour chatting then shook everyones windows leaving. Everyone said it sounds great and not to fit a silencer.....most of them were in between 60 and 75 years old, who said old folk grumble about noise poloution:-). Everywhere the Scammell has been i've had a least one chap come up to me who has driven or rode in one during his national service and told all sorts of stories about them.....Its great fun.

I still make a compleat arse of the down change from 4th to 3rd:blush:

I also feel the need to enter you for the cleanest scammell award :wow: How much shimming did you have to do to get it all lined up? I gave up after two hours and declared that an 8th of and inch out was good enough>:(

the dog was just voiceing his excitement that its running at last .

All runs well. oil pressure is good, engine warms up nicely. rear axel oil cooler warms nicely also so gd circulation in the cooling sytem jake brake works with a lovely burble but by the time i got round to playing with it the camra man had called it quits for the nite .

still got lots more to do prop shaft and clutch linkage to do next .
