terrierman
Both Lancs flew together today three times, they have just completed an evening practise with Spitfire & Hurricane in tow, ready for the Authority display tomorrow and onto Biggin Hill for the weekend. The sight & sound of two Lancs landing in the low evening sun was spine chilling! Just one teaser pic from earlier: Wow how great is that, Hope to see them at Bournemouth and Sally B Regards John
Hair Bear
If they were to land at Waddington - 2 Lancs with 2 Vulcans. Make a nice picture...
Sean N
Unfortunately for all those hoping to see the two Lancasters at Bournemouth or Shoreham this weekend, the Canadian Lancaster has had to cancel due to an engine problem while flying from Durham Tees Valley airport today. Apparently they had to shut one engine down due to an unspecified issue. The aircraft landed safely and is currently hangared while the fault is investigated. They've cancelled all flying this weekend and will update once the problem is found.

Desert Rat
A new engine (one of the rebuilt ones ready for Just Jane) has been sent up to Durham-Tees for fitting over the weekend. Fingers crossed for next Tuesday...

Desert Rat
Really? Is that a serious question? I wouldn't have thought so The interesting thing is will she be flying with 3 Packards and one Rolls-Royce built Merlin ?
Jessie The Jeep
Five out of fifteen hundred photos from the former RAF Middleton St George on August 28th. The stars of the event. "Jessie" ahead of "Vera" This Hillman staff car was based at Middleton St George, and the owner has a photo of it parked under the nose of one of the squadron Lancasters. We got the opportunity to recreate the photo. The view out of my Jeep. On finals past one of the wartime hangars. Tony B
I wouldn't have thought so The interesting thing is will she be flying with 3 Packards and one Rolls-Royce built Merlin ? I thought it was only allowed the other way round? :-D
Desert Rat
I thought it was only allowed the other way round? :-D As I remember, the engines that were rebuilt at East Kirkby were from a York. The Canadian Lanc certainly sounds nicer with the shorter exhaust stubs.
Desert Rat
Just an update, speaking to a colleague last night who is actually working on the Merlin for the Canadian Lanc, it seems the Supercharger failed dramatically and two engines were made available - one from East Kirkby and one from the BBMF which is the one they have gone with but there are several differences between a Packard and a Rolls built Merlin which they are having to overcome. Sean N
There's an item on the BBMF website saying they're using a BBMF Merlin 500 with some modifications. http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/news/index.cfm?storyid=89CFBEFD-5056-A318-A8DF5A824E5A288B
Desert Rat
Unfortunately, tomorrows 3 Lancs at East Kirkby has been cancelled. All tickets are still valid if anyone wants to go along to see some of the other events taking place tomorrow or you can hold on to them as they are trying to reschedule another date and the tickets will be valid for that. http://www.lincsaviation.co.uk/news/latest-news/3-Lancasters-Flying-Cancelled.htm
Jessie The Jeep
I missed out on tickets for this at the time ( perhaps luckily ), and then booked quickly for the second date ( Sept 7th ) when that was released. Hopefully The Mynarski Lanc will be back on the tour in time for next weekend when they have a very busy few days.
Chris Hall
I've heard from a very reliable source that they may have to cut back on the number of events that VERA will attend. They are used to flying maybe 4 events a year and not 4 a week and the 2 Pilots are knackered. One of the Pilots, the one that flew most of the ferry flight over here is in his 70's so hats off to him for his efforts. I also made reference to the possibility of the BBMF Lanc going to Canada but it's already been ruled out as there isn't the same following over there that there is here. The Canadian crew have been overwhelmed by the General Public and can't believe the reception they are receiving where ever they go.

Sean N
Back at Coningsby now, apparently. http://www.lincolnshireecho.co.uk/Canadian-Lancaster-returns-RAF-Coningsby-grounded/story-22870461-detail/story.html I notice the remaining displays on the BBMF list don't show 2 Lancs, though CWHM say they're doing Prestwick and Portrush. They are doing the main shows but the crew are whacked. Time differences, late evening practice, early morning practice, day after day of continuous flying has taken its toll.
