What will the MOD clear out next?

I was wondering what will be sold in large numbers next. In the past there has been clear outs of abbots, ferrets, saracens, stollys, fv 432's, cvrts, etc etc and most recently green goddesses.

All of the above are now disposed of and in the hands of owners, or scrapped, but whats coming along now? Saxons perhaps?

Armoured Fighting Vehicles: Sales

Daniel Kawczynski: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what control his Department has over who the ultimate owners are of armoured personnel carriers being sold by his Department to Witham (Specialist Vehicles) Ltd; [216482]

(2) how many decommissioned armoured personnel carriers have been sold abroad in each year since 2006; [216485]

(3) how many Saxon armoured personnel carriers have been sold by his Department to Witham (Specialist Vehicles) Ltd. [216486]

Mr. Bob Ainsworth: The Department does not sell armoured personnel carriers to Witham (Specialist Vehicles) Ltd. The company acts as the selling agent for surplus MOD vehicles under the terms of an incentive-based contract. The receipts from sale are shared in an agreed proportion between the company and the Department.

All surplus equipment sold into the commercial marketplace is demilitarised and declassified. In that event, when vehicles are purchased from Witham to be exported outside the United Kingdom, purchasers are obliged to comply with normal UK export licence regulations. The Department has no control over the ultimate owner of the vehicles.

Between 1 January 2006 and 3 July 2008, 44 Saxon vehicles were sold on behalf of the Department. The Department does not hold information on which of those vehicles purchased to date remain within the United Kingdom and which have been exported.

Daniel Kawczynski: To ask the Secretary of State for Defence for what reasons his Department is selling armoured personnel carriers. [216483]

Mr. Bob Ainsworth: The Saxon General War Role (Saxon GWR) is being removed from service and sold because it no longer meets the requirements of the Army, and has been declared obsolete.

the diesel cvrts have to be on the way out soon....they will be good, but i suspect that a lot of this could be going to other users in the world...the army is getting wise to the sale of these things and their value...

us collectors will be left out in the cold a bit I suspect....

in europe most of the ex soviet block countries are re arming with european equipment and replacing it all...there will be loads of ex russian stuff about soon...trouble is prices have gone silyy because a lot of african and balkan states are buying them up at big ticket prices...bad news again for us collectors...

t 55's up at 20k and rising, t72's up to 30k and rising, bmps 15 k and rising, brdms 8-9k and rising....

I understand that the czech army are getting rid of 750 BMP-1's thats a lot of toys...

They had (have?) both mate - the OT's apparently were converted as part of an Arms Limitation deal on IFV's - hence the replacement turret with a high-angle HMG mount.

Incidentally - I note on the latest adverts on MilWeb that RME have OT-90's at £19,500 +VAT - that's £6,000 more than I paid for mine before having all the VOSA requested work done.

That rise in price makes it a good investment then? Apart from the VOSA stuff but they get us all eventually.

There are still thousands of Bedfords (TM and MJ) to come through Withams.

I was at a local TA unit the other day, talking to a friend that is attached there. This a R.E.M.E workshops unit. I was informed that I should note the registration numbers of thier vehicles,as they were ALL going to be disposed of soon. The reason for this is, these vehicles are VERY low mileage & have seen little use! They are Bedford MJ's, BUT, I know Witham already have access to large stocks of War reserve already.

They had the New replacement trailers there for the Wolf. This replaces the Sankey widetrack, which also is going to be entirely removed from service & replaced with this trailer. Whithams already have thousands of the sankeys, so many that the bad ones are being scrapped. usefull for spares IF you can nogotiate a sensible price from Sutherington! :coffee:

Mike.

I was going to suggest that since Whole Fleet Management seems to have worked to HMG's satisfaction wrt CR2, I could well imagine them pulling the same stunt with Scimitars so that users get one to play with odd day / even day / day without a Y in it / year divides by 1700 / etc etc.

There are 104 new latest upgrade Scimitars in the sandpit (taken by the LD BG this year). The rest will be decimated because people won't need them for real.

Cynical? Bitter and twisted? Moi?
