  1. I visited your Museum a few years back and was very impresed. You even had a few Ford V8 vehicles! I must make a return visit and spend longer there. Welcome to the Forum.
  2. I am going from Reading to NEC Birmingham soon and will have some spare time on the way back. Can anyone suggest somewhere to visit close to the M40? I was thinking of the Motor Museum at Gaydon, as I have never been there before. Is it good or is there anywhere else to visit? The trip will be on Friday 18th May. Many thanks

    Floods

I've been reading about the recent floods and wondering if anyone had been out making the most of them in their MV? Anyone tried deep wading in a Champ or a Stalwart? Pictures, please.
  4. This reminds me of another solution. How about a wire cost hanger? They are fairly flexible and very cost-effective. I used to use wire cost hangers a lot at work and it was essential getting data and power leads under computer room floors.
  5. There is one of those pill boxes at Junction 12 of the M4 near Reading. It was used for a 2pdr anti-tank gun.
  6. I agree with Pete. I have found that the wheel bearings for a WOT2 are still available at any Motor Factors, provided you know the Timkin part number, which is listed in the parts book as part of the Army part number or is stamped on the original bearings. I have also found that the Fram C30 oil filter element used on British wartime vehicles is still made by Mann filters as PF1025 and it fits.
  7. Yes, I did change the condensor, so no problems there. NGK Plugs are available from Green spark plug co. but although they fit and work, the original spark plug tool won't as the hex on them is smaller, but a modern spark plug tool will fit.
  8. I have read about a fire at a barn in Finchampstead just south of Reading in the early hours of Monday morning, when a quantity of Vintage farm machinery was destroyed. Anyone know any more details, and were any MVs involved? The details on the BBC website are a bit vague.
  9. Change the plugs, but do the condensor as well. It will save you further problems. Lucas DCB121C
  10. Buy a set of NGK-AB6 plugs and also change the condensor to a Lucas DCB121C model. You should get no problems then.
  11. Hello and welcome. As a co-incidence, I am in Woodhall Spa in early May staying at the Petwood Hotel, a holiday for the Wife's Birthday.
  12. The grenade fuse tins were round and painted Red.
  13. I have heard a rumour about the 2012 show and wanted to find out if it is true. All the Battles are to be in the Arena only and the skirmishes in Monktons and by the Re-enactment areas are banned. Any truth in this?
  14. I was at Goodwood last September and counted 10 in the air together, 2 groups of 4 and one of 2. I believe there were 12 but 2 didn't make it into the air.
  15. I read about this in todays Daily Mail. It says they are Mark 2 Spitfires. Now the question is, Why crate up a Spitfire that is out-of-date in 1945 and send it to Burma? Surely a Mark 9 or newer would make more sense, not a Battle of Britain relic to fight Zeros in the far east. If they were Mustangs I could understand it. What do you think?
  16. Just back from my Romney holiday, and many thanks for the suggestions. We went to Brenzett museum, which we enjoyed. Lot to see and friendly staff, even prices in the shop were reasonable. We went to Hawkinge. A lot there, but the staff were very unfriendly and there was no-one to explain anything. Too cold and impersonal. Had a day on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway and had a fantastic day out. The holiday home park had it's own station, whih made things easier. Staff very helpful, friendly and enthusiastic. Went to Rye, but it started to pour with rain, so went back as Grandchildren were getting grumpy. I saw a 1930's Essex car there parked in the street with a Jack Russel sitting in it, like my dog. Thanks again for the suggestions. Robert Davey
  17. My WOT2 tyres are 25psi but on the rear cover of the last Windscreen mag there is a WOT2 with 64psi marked on the truck - this does seem a little high. I would go for 25psi but with dunlop 900x16 tyres, it doesn't matter very much.

    Fantasy Barn

    Now, Now... Don't be greedy.
  19. I used to have a Champ, and the only engine diference between a Cargo and FFW engine is the Dynamo and it's oil pipes (the oil holes are blanked off on the cargo version). The actual engine is identical.
  20. YES. My eldest daughter got an Android phone after an iphone3 and regreted it. I have an iphone4S which has been very good, but use a decent network like Vodafone for best results. 3 is not the best network by any means. As you're not on Vodafone now, changing to them might get you a cheap iphone. There is an iphone5 coming out in 6-12 months so you could wait for it.
  21. The tax renewal on my WOT2 says it needs an MoT and it is the same size & Weight as an MW. However, there is something going on about making pre-1960 vehicles MoT exempt, but no news yet.
  22. Just to clarify my question. I believe that during WW1 and WW2, soldiers were taught to fire Right handed only, but were allowed to fire Left handed for street fighting. Question was, when were Soldiers allowed to fire Rifles left handed in normal use? I am aware of the SA80 being Right hand only, as I heard this from an SAS soldier, who didn't like the gun at all.
  23. Question for you. I know that in the past, Soldiers were all taught to fire a Rifle Right-Handed, even if they were Left-Handed. Question is, when did the British Army, or any other Armies, stop this practice and let Soldiers fire a Rifle Left-handed? Anyone know of a date?
  24. Tony Thanks for that. I just saw your thread a short while after I posted mine. I have now fitted the new coil as you suggested and it's running OK. Last week the WOT2 was on its first trip out this year and died completely just half a mile from home after starting to run rough. Had to get towed home by the AA. Robert
  25. I have just bought a new coil to replace the failed one on my WOT2. The old coil had SW and CB marked on it but the new one has + and - instead. I can make a good guess as to which way it should go round, but I thought I had better ask some experts first. The WOT2 is Negative earth. Many thanks.
