  1. I live in Reading. If you can give me any details of where he lived and any other details about Reading, I will see what I can find out. Also, my Uncle, Charles Sage, was in the Royal Artillery in HAA and served in Italy as a Lieutenant after being in the Cadets at Reading School. I noticed that the photos show the 1939-45 star, which was issued before the other campaign medals and before the end of the war (can't remember the exact date, but I can find out).
  2. Paul That would be perfect. I will PM you with my email address. Very many thanks. Robert Davey
  3. I have watched a wartime film 'Switchover' which shows Ford WOT2 trucks being assembled. It shows that the cabs and bodies were supplied with canvas fitted before the truck was assembled. Therefore the original canvas colours didn't match, as can be seen in original photos from the IWM. In one series of photos, the cab canvas on a WOT2 built in early 1943 looks Green, but the canvas on the body looks Brown.
  4. In WW2, Ford in Dagenham ran instructional classes for the Army. They used a book called 'Dangerous Curves' (of which I have a copy) and a poem called 'What a Twit'. Question is, does anyone have a copy of the poem 'What a Twit' as I have never found a copy yet. Anyone help, please?
  5. My Ford WOT2 has a Green steering wheel and my Ford WOA2 has a Black steering wheel. Both are the same part number and are interchangeable. Was there more than one supplier and did they just use what was available? I assume Bedford were in the same situation as Ford during WW2 with supplies. I have seen the results of the company you have mentioned for the restoration of the steering wheel, at Beaulieu Autojubmble and I was very impressed with their work. Not cheap but very good results.

    Towing a B25

    er... That's a B25. A B24 had 4 engines.
  7. I am driving up to Excel in East London next Sunday 26th Feb, taking my Wife, Daughter and Grandaughters to a Baby show at Excel in East London. Much as I love my Granddaughters, I am not very keen to spend hours looking at the latest in Buggies and Nappies, so I need your advice to one question. "Where can I go on Sunday 26th Feb for 2-3 hours?" I thought of the IWM but by the time I drive there and park, it's time to head back again. I need somewhere within 15-20 mins driving, and I have already been to Firepower at Woolwich. Any advice will be gratefully received. Many thanks.
  8. Phil - I enjoyed the talk at Dartford. Many thanks. Robert Davey
  9. It's listed in the kit for a Wireless set 62 when carried in a Jeep in 1945.
  10. Nice find, it must have belonged to a member of the ATS as the W before the number, I believe, means Woman.
  11. I was talking to a man from Kent recently about Military Vehicles and he told me about his Grandfather who was at Pendine Military Establishment near Camarthem, South Wales from Feb 1940 to October 1945. The man's Grandfather, Jack Burton, was a driver and I was given a copy of a photo of him in a Humber Utility car. Question is, does anyone know anything about Pendine Military Testing Establishment in WW2 and what did they do there? I believe it was for Artillery testing, but I need more information. Anyone help, please? Many thanks.
  12. It's giving us Dog Walkers a bad name. I hope he wins in the courts, but experience tells me he is fighting a losing battle.
  13. If it's any interest, Ford UK used Beech in their vehicles, like the WOT2.
  14. I have seen the steel buckles on post war belts and webbing but they are all painted Black. I have also seen steel buckles on wartime belts but the steel is painted Green or Brown and I beleive it is a wartime ecconomy measure. I have heard that the belts with steel buckles were not liked by NCOs as they could not be polished for parades.
  15. My Daughter in Swanscombe, Kent has just phoned to say she can hear Jets flying low over their house, possibly circling. Swanscombe is very close to Dartford.

  18. At 12:54 today at Darant Valley Hospital in Kent, my second Granddaughter was born. Kathryn is a healthy 8lb 10oz baby girl and both her and her Mother Emma Read are doing well.
  19. Pity the flag on the Centurion is upside down..........
  20. I know they used Mapledurham near Reading for the village shots as I visited the location during the very hot Summer of 1976. The church interior was built inside a tent in a field and the pub and the mill extension were fakes. The half track's turret was made of wood, as I saw it being built. The Jeeps were not too good, and some were being welded on-site. One question about the film - there was a yellow & red Vauxhall car used in the film, and I saw a duplicate car in a tent. It looked OK but was a wreck, so I assume it was to be blown up. However this didn't happen in the film. I assume that this bit was cut out - can anyone help?
  21. My sympathies are with you. I lost my Mother on 2nd July, so I understand what you are going through.
  22. I was given an 'Access all areas' pass for Thursday 26th April as a Christmas present from my youngest Daughter. Question is, does anyone in the Tank Museum area know of a good (and reasonable) hotel my Wife and I could stay in for the previous night (Wednesday 25th April) so that we are at the Tank Museum nice and early? Must be close the Tank Museum and not too pricey - We need Bed and Breakfast, an evening meal would be good but not essential. Many thanks for any help you can give me.
  23. Looks like the can I use for my truck. The can should have a date on the bottom as well, but as 2 letters. In your case 43. It might also have the manufacturer, such as Valor as it's a British can. Nice can and useful as well.
  24. I saw one of these at an Autojumble about 30 years ago and didn't realise what it was until later. Always regretted not buying it. I did hear that they were also used by Coast Watchers in the Pacific to charge Radio Batteries. Anyone confirm this?
