les freathy
Had a quick look on this thread and found no ref to the Rolls armoured car so prehaps now is the time to start one with the attached images
Snapper
Nice. I remember they used to have one in the RAF museum. But on my last two visits the gallery it used to be in was off limits and second time I was covering the Haynes Lanc launch... which reminds me, I need to see what they are up to this year. Great War truck
I can think of six survivors and one replica. Who wants to have a guess at where they all are? Tim (too)
Tony B
replicas down in Windsor isn't it? Must get there one day. Those old ldaies did earn thier keep. I've got some pictures of them in War illustrated operating in 1939/40, I'll dig them out.
Rlangham
I can think of six survivors and one replica. Who wants to have a guess at where they all are? Tim (too) Bovington RAF Regiment museum (the former RAF Hendon one) India seen a replica posted on a forum which wasn't a particularly good one, can't remember where based but pretty certain it was private
Bodger Baz
A middle east enthusiast has a very nice replica, and will soon have three more!...................... Edited March 18, 2009 by Bodger Baz
les freathy
This photo shows a lot of differing design to the first two photos mainly around the turret and rear body area, any comments as to why
Bodger Baz
The Original cars had wire spoke wheels, they were changed to solid disc wheels as time went by then very late on to split rims and some had a fitted door in the drivers side. They were used in the desert at the beginning of the second world war but proved to be very out dated. some great pictures and stories to be found here http://www.rrec.org.uk/Cars/Rolls-Royce_Armoured_Cars/Armoured_Cars_in_Action.php

Great War truck
Serious???? Is it in Ireland? Tim (too)
mazungumagic
All this reminds me of a very funny story, among a lot of other very funny stories, in a book called "Unofficial History" by FM Sir William Slim (plus lots of letters after his name), in the chapter titled "Elizabeth Succeeded Henry". It's about a Rolls Royce armoured car troop in Mesopotamia and a cunning troop leader. Jack
les freathy
Was it Tony Oliver back in the late 1970s had one of those armoured trucks restored, for the life of me i cant remember the make of it
Rlangham
The truck photographed is a Lancia. I'd have to go for a nice Pierce Arrow with a pom-pom myself, although i'm pretty certain there's none left
croc
Serious???? Is it in Ireland? Tim (too) I can vouch for the existance of this, but am not prepared to say anything regarding its location out of respect for the owners privacy. It is however in good condition, safe and dry stored.
Great War truck
Interesting stuff. I am aware of five surviving Lancias. Three in Ireland, two over here, although one of those is just a rolling chassis. One of the ones in Ireland is complete with the armour and nets etc, but as it is a bit of a controversial vehicle it is kept hidden away to prevent it getting torched. A shame. The running one in the UK is an ex RIC one but was civilianised in the 1920's. Tim (too)
Adam Elsdon
This one is definitely a runner and is pretty much as original, the owner is after a rear wheel, one of the wheels from the double wheeled axle was missing when he got it, and the Lancia radiator badge has also gone the distance. If anybody knows of such items, PM me and i will let him know!
Great War truck
Those look very good. What chassis are they on? Are they destined for an overseas customer? Tim (too)

Runflat
The person who has posted all those photos also posts regularly to the Landships forum. It's an amazing forum if you are into WW1 technology. http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=63528
