ferretfixer Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Hello everybody! This is my first post on the site. I am a mil veh owner with a Military background also. I presently own a Ferret MKII, a couple of sankey trailers & a WWII German Ammo trailer. (More trailers than vehicles to tow them!) I was a vehicle mech for 3 three years, then retrained as an Armourer (& never looked back!) I have owned a few exotic 'toys' in the past IE: Saladin, scorpion, fox, Ferret, Kubelwagen, Zundapp KS750 combination, 2 x Jeeps. All that ended 9 years back after a protracted & messy divorce! :nono: I have started again with Humble beginings! The Ferret was the most fun vehicle I ever owned, so I decided to start there again! :-D At present, I am looking for a Bedford RL Cargo if anyone has one for sale at sensible money. I would prefer gloss green (Deep Bronze Green) but a later scheme would be considered. After all, a spray gun covers a multitude of sins! So there you go, a very potted history of me! My main Interest is obviously Weapons as an an Armouer, so, if I can help anybody. Im only too willing to assist. Hope to hear from any members soon. Bye for now, respectful regards to all, Mike Quote

ferretfixer Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Hi, welcome to the Forum... ever worked on 25pdr's :coffee: Cheers Lee Hi Lee, Well... a little. I used to work in the armamant industry after leaving the Army. We used to have & sell spares for them. I recently sold a very nice userhandbook for one of these on Ebay. I will catch up wth you tommorow Mate, got to catch the soaps tonight! (How sad is that!) Mike Quote
Jack Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Welcome Mike and thank you for the introduction. And please help Lee with his 25pdr as I don't have time to apply my skills. The Clubhouse is full of ski gear at the moment and is making a right mess - can you tidy that up please first all. Then can you go and help Gritineye and N.O.S. - they are rigging up some sort of chair lift...... Quote
ferretfixer Posted February 2, 2009 Author Posted February 2, 2009 Hi Jack, Sorry Mate, but at my level I dont get my hands dirty anymore (Sergeant) :nono: I just go & sign a prisoner out from the Guardroom & he can clean up for you!! LOL. Mike :coffee: Quote
Marmite!! Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 You should fit in well here, plenty of ex-servicemen on the forum, who did you serve with? always happy to see in-service photos.. especially if they contain MV's Quote

LOL. Mike :coffee: Whoa Mike, no matter how close you are to God in HM armed forces, in the clubhouse you are strictly a newbie and have cleaning duties. But as you have specialist skills, you can always help with Lee's 25 pounder and Tony B always needs his wit sharpening :-D. Out in the maize field we have a bird scarer to fix, trouble is everyone thinks the bird scarer is Jack when he goes to the Dorchester branch of Spearmint Rhino...which would probably be Spearmint Dobbin where he lives, but they've been shut since someone nicked the horse trough from outside the smokers gazebo. Pass the turnips. M Quote
Bodge Deep Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Welcome to the booby hatch For the love of god help Jack fix his truck... its taking root! Oh and no, positively NO skidoos to be ridden into the clubhouse... have you seen the state of the carpet? Maureen'll have a fit when she comes in in the morning! Quote
Snapper Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Haven't you checked the answer phone? She's buggered off to the Maldives for the duration. Her cousin Mildred is filling in. Quote
Bodge Deep Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 damn that woman she's never here when she's needed... several of the guys are snowed out of home so are kipping down in the dining room and I heard rumblings about being able to see the bottom of the biscuit barrel... there'll be hell to pay if enigmas tuck box is raided Quote
Tony B Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Welcome to the mad house. Even worse at the moment, one day of snow and cabin fever setting in. Quote
abn deuce Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 It would be bad enough if it were just the skidoos but the other tracked vehicles doing spins on the clubhouse lawns and parking lot is getting quite out of hand. Did you happen to see the Sherman slide right thru the Bike shed claimed the parking lot , sorry Car park had not be gritted so not their fault , even though they had not heeded the 10 mph speed signs and were doing close to 30mph at the time ! As for the Stalwarts , lets just say bounding over some and through some of the snow drifts ...at least they thought they were only drifts.....after they had gone over a number they discovered the drifts were in fact a drifted over assortment of lesser vehicles as in Jeeps , Iltis's and one Dodge WC. Oh yes and Welcome Ferrettfixer , to the Friendliest Friendly Forum on the web. As long as you dont touch any of the others private stocks of special cakes, biscuits and chocolate goodies you should become a regular member in good standing if you make it until your probationary period has been completed. More interesting arm of service, as we got attached to all different branches of the Army. (They bend it, I mend it!) I was attached to the following: Royal Engineers, 15/16th Hussars, 1 Worcestershire Foresters Regiment (Mech Inf) 2 Light Infantry,3 Bn Parachute Regiment, The school Of Infantry at Warminster, (Also demonstration Battalion) Wilts, royal welsh fusileiers, & 27 Command Workshop, also in Warminster. I was also with the T.A 10 years after I left the Regulars with 6/7 & 5th Battalion Princess Of Wales's Royal Regiment. Had an attacment with the Lifeguards whilst with them also. I was The Battalion Armourer Sergeant. Worked for an Armamant Company in Civvy Street, manufacturing G.P.MG.s, ,50" Cal MG's & 81mm Mortars, amongst a host of other equipment. Was involved in R & D in weapons, Mounts, trials & refurbisment. There is very little indeed that I didnt cover, & I consider myself priveliged & (Have been told) an authority in my field. I have been called an 'Expert' by many. BUT, this is a title I shy away from. For there is ALWAYS somebody who knows a little more than we do ourselves!! My maxim is, 'always keep an open mind'. Sooner or later, there is something that comes along to disprove the 'so called golden rule' written in stone!! Mike Quote

Hi, Mike. My bold. I guess this is a typo and you meant 15/19th Hussars, in which case our paths may have crossed. I was 15/19H in Omagh, Tidworth and UNFICYP (1976-77) and Paderborn (1977-82) before taking a career change commanding a desk. Another HMVF member, Bazz, did a couple of years before me in 15/19H and a lot of years after me (still serving in the TA or the ACF or something). Any of these dates mean anything? Quote
Bazz Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 hello Mike, Welcome to the best forum ever, just to confirm Aliens post, served 15/19H 1974-1986. Barry. Quote
6 X 6 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I'm pleased to hear you like RL's. Once so commonplace and now looking so exotic. I saw this one at North Petherton on New Years Day but I've no idea whether it's for sale. Good luck with finding a nice one. Quote
