Interesting to see they have Civilian registrations rather than the usual army style, 2 digits, 2 letters, 2 digits. Anyone know the reason for this? So would the ones coming out of Witham's have been complete with a normal V5, ie already road registered? That'd be a £100 saving on the usual registration fee when presenting the cast vehicle form. Belonged to the Home Office and used by the Auxilury Fire Service (AFS). That gave then all Civiy No Plates, also many or the plates were county registered. I think these motors are a bit of a bargain at the moment if you can afford the fuel. No pictures of the pump in action? Ta for the brekkie - nearly had to rent out Grasshopper to pay for it!!! The GG is fully kitted out as previously stated and I haven't seen a more complete and well maintained example for a long time. If there are any left at Withams, they won't have any kit and they will be the rough lot that weren't taken. Good buy Phil! As I am on here, I must say sorry to Grasshopper for the appalling taste of music in Phil’s car on the way home. "STEPS GOLD." EEK. Phil you have a great taste in motors but sort your music out. They had AFS on the doors and the legend "property of the Home Office" above n/side front wheel. If anybody wants to delve deeper into the AFS fleet can I suggest a book called the Green Machine, published in the earlier 90's. It listed all the registration numbers of all the AFS fleet and as much history as the authorscould find, remeber that when it was written a lot of vehicles were still in store. I think the same procedures were used right up until the last time they were used. GG is 12 volt so it was easier to use army control vehicles as a link. The numbers would possibly be call signs, my guess is the GG would have some kind of inter vehicle radio link to the Land Rover :confused:. Ted will no doubt know more on this. Ted will no doubt know more on this.During the last strike.Every GG had a copper on board providing the radio link back the relevnt police stations.As i believe all emergancy call regarding fire were diverted through to Scotland Yard.
