I knew the owner and thought it was to be restored but no such luck. Interesting headlights on that! Similar to mine when it was first in service: Out of curiosity what is the truck behind that Amazon wrecker?
radiomike7
It is a stretched civilian tractor, R.E./R.E.M.E did not run Amazons. I didn't pay attention to the one behind it.

Normally see the twin rounds and the civvi squares.
Zero-Five-Two
Those headlights don't look original, if you blow the picture up you can see a plate behind the lamp covering a rectangular hole.
attleej
Is it a Crusader or is it the Amazon made into a recovery by Guardian Recovery equipment in Kent? John
attleej
Sorry, I did not see page 11. The reason why they would have done the headlamp conversion is that for a long time the original Crusader headlamp units were very hard to come by. I think that they were made by Ciebie. John From memory they were sourced from a car, possibly the Hillman Hunter. Cibie produced a halogen bulbed version of the original sealed beam units making it suitable for 12 and 24v. Definitely an Amazon John, I seem to remember it was one of the last ones to be registered.

Correct, apologies for not reducing the size before posting.
boris22
Does anyone know if the 20 tonne daycab Crusader CL Tractor in RE / army service had a Plumett winch like it's 35 tonne big brother?
attleej
I don't think it does because there was no need for it. It was for cargo use not plant or Lt A vehicles. John John
NRS91
The data sheet ive seen for the day cab version was just as a 6X4 tractor unit, no winch. (I believe the data sheet was in this thread somewhere?)
