dizzy-t
Yess, now I know what you mean, thank you. It is stored in the ballast body like all the other parts.Restauration has to wait a while, almost have finished my other T with the Volvo engine. Klaas. Excellent restoration you have done, but not sure about a Volvo engine.:nut:
Adrian
I took my bonnet off t'other day as the hinge had become detached, we freed of the hinge then welded it back on, after that we re-bolted the bonnet. Putting the whole assembly back over the engine was so easy with the fork truck and two sticks. Would not want to do this by hand A couple of us have tried this by hand and almost came unstuck. Those hinges are problematic as hell when the bonnet rots. Adrian
Does anyone have a spare inlet valve for a Hercules Diesel? Pulled the heads off to investigate a few anomolies (always had an annoying chuff from the exhaust) and found one exhaust and one inlet valve which were bent. Not bent by much but more than enough to cause a blow by. Got spare exhaust valves on the shelf but tried to get hold of spare inlets. Made some enquiries in European dealers but they are taking an age to get back to me:undecided:. Cheers, A

Yes Nigel's bonnet came unstuck from the strengthener at the cab end, nearly had my head off just closing the bonnet, ruddy strut went inside out. Got it open this weekend though, good luck with your valves. David

Thanks Tony, hope you are well too. Jaap is usually one of my first ports of call and he is on the hunt for inlet valves. I have not heard back from him yet but I was unaware of the haul of ex-beek spares so can assume he is sorting through them. Thanks for the tip and I will chase him up. BTW thanks for all your advice. The overheating problem was, as you predicted in the radiator, the heads are fine bar the bent valves on the FWD head. All can be sorted. 42 chevy
Adrian; When I went through my radiator, half the core was clogged. My truck did not overheat, however, I elected to have a new core put in. Now she does not go over 170 degrees. It was a major expense, but well worth it for peace of mind. Hopefully you can get buy with a flush out. I do have a source in the US who has NOS units for the 969 and 980, but I am sure shippping would be prohibitally exspensive. Keep us apprised of the situation. John G

Cheers, A Yes Tony, you advise on taking heads off before use...... had the old girl around the yard the other day, she got hot as the brake valve stuck or let air past to the rear brakes, giving us a bit of a load. Result bubbles from front head gasket and a fizzy rad :-( So heads off, one thing Torque for the nuts any ideas? Or just feel? Could you PM me your No. again as I can't find the bit of paper from Beltring. You were going to put me in touch with someone re info on the T from Records. Thanks David D. Adrian
Found a stock of inlet valves for the Hercules :-). Company in New York specialising in obsolete engine parts: http://mandmsurplus.com/ In regard to DFXE heads, anyone noticed their head studs not going all the way through the nut? Maybe this is typical for Hercules but seems very bad practice :undecided: Cheers, A
42 chevy
Adrian; I have dealt with that company in the past, must have slipped my mind to tell you. Always good service. Glad you found them. John G

A stud not protruding may give the impression the nut is too deep or something has not seated, David
Adrian
Why? Most engines do this. A stud not protruding may give the impression the nut is too deep or something has not seated, David On my engine, some of the nuts/studs were flush, whilst some showed the nuts being too tall by 2-3 threads, thus the stud being recessed in the nut when installed. So in these cases the nut was not fully engaged on the stud. Cheers, A
MACCDT
Evening All Had the chance to show my Soft top Diamond T 981 off in the sunshine last weekend to two new friends, David and Nigel who travelled over the Peak District and suprised them with a drive around a local industrial estate. whilst playing, David asked about the axle articulation on the "T". I hope the pictures show just how good it is Steve MaccDT

Tony Graves
Hi All Interesting photo of Diamond T and 50 ton trailer with Centurion Tank. This particular Diamond has the civilian cab with the two extra rear windows and no cab ventilators. There was no vent in the front of the windscreen and the scuttle was a different shape. The bonnet was made of thinner material and went straight across the front of the cab. The two windscreens had wind out handles and only opened about three inches. The reg. no. is 57 BN 30. Hope of interest. Tony G.
