Corbs
A couple of photos of Pioneer tank transporter. I took these a long time ago. The Scammell pictured with owner Rod Cadman was ex. Glossop, road planers of Tonbridge in Kent. Unusual date for reg. plate, 1968, which was quite late for use of the old girl. Not wishing to reveal my age but I clearly remember seeing one of Glossop's Scammells working in Croydon. I don't know if Rod still has this truck but it might be worth a call. Hope of interest. Tony G. Nice to find some more pics of this old truck. Madrat dug this one out too: http://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p309571614/h104EB63C#h104eb63c This is how the poor old thing looks today:

Alex van de Wetering
A Lexus going too fast in the opposite direction :-( If you know for a F60 rolling chassis we are looking.... >:(the worst nightmare for any MV owner! now I understand the other thread with the request for an F60 chassis. I think the best idea I have at the moment would be to mate the front end of an F60S LAAT chassis to the rear of the F60L wrecker. The front end to the transfer case should be the same for both. Chassis rails on the F60L are "double" if I am correct, making mating frame rails less difficult(?). I don't now of any spare F60L chassis available, but it wouldn't hurt asking LWDParts and Staman trading. Alex

That was more or less our original plan, but sadly upon further investigation we found that the impact was so hard it's twisted the entire chassis, one side has moved back about 4-6 inches even as far as the back axle, so the whole lot needs sorting out. Invincible Mick
Here's another Scammell Pioneer pic " INVINCIBLE " over at Normandy this June , pictured with myself is DDay veteran Richard Jones from Shropshire who had just laid a reef at the memorial at Baron-sur-mer . The Scammell is owned by Mick Price from Wolverhampton who invited me to join him and be co driver on the trip from his home all the way to the beaches at Normandy ,and what an experience it was, having never driven a machine like the Pioneer before it was in at the deep end and what good fun it was, even at those high speeds 23/24mph, after covering several hundred miles the old girl never missed a beat! what great British engineering !! One of the highlights of the trip was being lead in a 120 vehicle convoy escorted by French police m/cycles from the port to the M.V.T campsite near Port-en-Bessin , the Scammell was certainly the star on all the parades we did.. Hi All, Since the trip to Normandy back in 2014 we also took the Pioneer to the VE Day Commemorations in London in May this year. We were lucky enough to be considered and ended up as one of the gate guardians to the entrance to St James's Park from the Mall for the three day event. Needless to say it was busy. We drove the Pioneer down from Wolverhampton over night ending up in the rush hour traffic on the Friday morning which was quite an experience. The rather long cab video is on you tube at and there is another of the other vehicles in and around the Park at
Niels v
You are a brave man to drive it through London, and it looks like a very good display of vehicles. And the Pioneer is so pretty

greyhound32122
thank you Niels for your input. as this load would make a diamond work hard i would imagine a 100 hp scammell had it's work cut out towing what must be a 60 ton+ load

Scammell4199
Can anyone say with confidence whether Pioneers had any form of strip across the front edge of the cab roof directly above the headboard, or does the roof skin just screw straight into the headboard? I've got all the usual books, and its difficult to see in any of the period photos if there's anything there. A number of vehicles in preservation have some sort of reinforcement strip be it flat of dome shaped, but i'm not sure if its an original fitment. Cheers all, Richard

10FM68
Denmark in the fifties before we had sufficient Diamond T980's Certainly the Pioneer isn't in British service, so Danish makes sense, but the Centurion seems to be registered in the British Army BA series with its number plate on the side of the turret which was usual practice in the early days. Denmark received 200 Centurions, I understand, from an order placed in 1954, but I thought these were new builds, so, is the tank in this picture undergoing trials with the Danes, or is it on a joint exercise? 10
Niels v
This picture is possibly from the arrival of the first batch of centurions to Denmark. One of the best know cases of Scammell being used to haul them was from the dock to the barracks. There for the British markings

Richard Farrant
I notice the first photo must show a very early Pioneer as it has 'spoked' front wheels.
