daleheywoodtanks
Fuel tanks blasted. Progress is slow but steady ! One good thing, i now have the manual, so that should help immensely !
daleheywoodtanks
Spent all day trying to get tillers to work again. Got there eventually by stripping down and replacing seals.

daleheywoodtanks
Both fuel tanks cleaned and repaired. Treated inside and out with a two pack resin that will seal any pin holes remaining. Tested by filling with water, and thankfully, not a drop came out !

daleheywoodtanks
Why do i bother putting two coats of heat and fuel proof, two pack in the engine bay ? Its never going to be seen, jammed full of engine and stuff !

ferretfixer
It will protect the inner hull from rust & looking unsightly . Also easier to pressure wash out, should you get a fluid leak in the future. Edited May 23, 2020 by ferretfixer
daleheywoodtanks
Managed to remove engine today. Very happy with progress so far.
daleheywoodtanks
Then moved onto gearbox. A bit more tricky, but we got there in the end.
daleheywoodtanks
I think i will leave the steering unit intact for now, and concentrate on the engine and gearbox refurb.
andym
Very interesting, thanks Dale. Sort of like an FV432 but not, if you see what I mean! Andy

daleheywoodtanks
Waiting for new seals for tillers ! I still don't quite understand why there are four tillers. I'm sure it will all come out in the wash, as my nana says.
ferretfixer
Dale, it MAY be that the steering system has two slave cylinders for each side of the steering braking system? The logic being I would guess. Is that if a cylinder fails, you can still steer. A bit like a rolls Royce, two Braking & two ignition systems for 'Failsafe'! Just my thoughts on this. andym
Or perhaps one set of tillers does brakes, the other does something crafty in the steering box? Andy
