sean101ryan
Only 7 built I think, mostly with Stage 1 V8 front ends. Ther rear half was based on CVR(T) running gear. Their history has been well documented in the various LR comics. One turned up in Iraq recently in a poor condition with contested ownership (now back in UK with REME) Awesome off road apparantly but very noisy and a habit of trying to go in a straight line (steering not linked to tracks) http://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters/7413/lairdcent.html

lightweight
Hmm, think I'll stick with the Lightweight for a while then! Got a Sankey now so at least I can fit my 9x9 in at last. :-D
craig
Thats £19000 plus VAT so more like £23000 and it has absolutly no kit on it :-o
ArtistsRifles
Sadly more than I'd be prepared to pay too - even with the history/association the number plate has. Given a budget price of £2,000 for a GPMG just outfitting with the armaments would add around another £8,000 to £10,000 the there's all the rest of the kit - sand channels, sun compasses etc. etc.
AlienFTM
I was lucky enough to see Centaur in Army service in 1976. Aliwal Barracks, Tidworth, was the last barracks in the garrison before the Driver Training Area and Salisbury Plain, so everything drove past our vehicle park. Centaur was an unusual sight, but not as unusual, about the same time, as an experimental Chieftain assault gun with turret removed and 120mm gun poking out of the glacis plate. Tony B
From what I remember Centaur had a nasty habit of snapping at the join.
Jonny666
i have read that too, its a good idea (i like half tracks its a dream/goal of mine to own one) the half track landy i mean but it is full of pit falls
AlienFTM
ISTR that WW2 US half tracks were a vastly superior drive to the Germans' because they had drive to the tracks as well as the wheels. Anyone know if Centaur drove the tracks?
sean101ryan
Yes it did as well as retaining drive to the standard LR front axle. However there was no track steering so it had a tendancy to want to go straight on in the rough.
Nick Johns
They had the ser111 Landrover V8 109" front end, same engine and gearbox as early classic Range rover and 101" L/Rover, permanent 4wd g/box which drove tracks and front axle with lockable centre diff. Were only prototype, never went into serious production
