Tanks owner - Advise me on tanks....

John - it is great to see someone else who has the 'can do' attitude.

Relative poverty (too many relatives taking from my pay) makes it less of a 'can do' and more of a 'no bloody choice' but to do it myself.

Any and everybody can do this. The only trick really is how far 'back' you go up the handbook trail: for example, if you know exactly what you are doing then you might only need bearing clearances, ignition timings or torque wrench settings. Post war in Britain, this would be in an EMER. If you need to know how to maintain the bearings or the dismantling instructions for a distibutor then you would look in the drivers handbook. If you need help to know how to press out and refit bearings or how the ignition system works you would look in the basic trade test instructions and if you can't follow that you would start with the sort of basic book you can get for new drivers in WD Smiths which probably starts with how an engine works and how to file a flat surface.. Wherever you start, you just read on until you know what to do then do it! Easy as falling off a log! I work in an office and never even did metalwork at school but everything is ok because I can read up what I don't know.

Jack, from what you have written it looks to me like you have already made up your mind, your just trying to find excuses not to do it.

Yes it will cost a lot of money, and time, and work, and you will need to involve a few mates in the project, but even if you own your tank for a couple of years, just imagine the memories you will have, along with the photo albums of shots of the time when the gearbox locked up on the one way system, or when you ran out of fuel on the dual carriage way, or even the pics of a proud owner going round the arena at beltring!

You only have one crack at life, go for it!

Don't leave all the money to the kids, they will only waste it on sensible things :-D

Good advice Rob!

Not to sure if this is a goer or not as it depends on many think and a good chat with a tank owner yesterday who was very helpful :nono: :argh:

I hereby make myself available as your Co-driver or passenger in your tank at Beltring.....:naughty:

Shane,

good question! They don't seem to have a defined pricing structure, they can't tell you when the truck will be there to collect them, or when they will be coming back. It's all a bit wishy washy... but it isn't expensive.

Mike,

That truck looks very useful, we are thinking about getting one. Not as useful as a low loader though, hopefully I can borrow the W&P one again this year.
