Question

I just wondered if any one has any thoughts on converting a points and coil type ignition system to a modern electronic system , i was thinking about converting my International M5 halftrack to a modern system may be using one of the systems advertised on milweb , any thoughts would be welcome ,

Thanks in advance ,

Adrian

Adrian I have done it to two Humber 1-Tons & a Shorland. I would thoroughly recommend it. No problem that the Humbers were 24v & the Shorland 12v. But they are -ve earth you might have difficulties arranging a ready-made system if you are +ve earth. I would contact Jolly Engineering as he has wide experience of developing kits for various MVs in particular.

I fitted the Jolley Engineering system to my 6v Jeep. It starts better and is better on tick over. Its quick and easy to fit and I keep the old points, etc. in the vehicle in case of a problem on the road and need to get myself home. About 20 minutes to fit. Andy.

I'll add to the Jolley fanclub, fitted one to the Dodge, 12 volt, and will be getting one for Katy 6 volt Dodge. Makes life a lot easier on the battery. My Dodge was good on her conventional ignition, never a problem, but the Electronic one just gives the edge. Things are just a bit smoother all round.

I fitted a Frank Jolly one to the Ward when it was fitted with the R22 Continental.

To be honest - I didn't really notice much difference.

That's not to say Frank Jolly's stuff isn't any good - because it is but my Ward was always a decent starter.

It did take away the chance of something breaking down on route. You know how fiddly these ignition components can be!!!

i've run electronic in my vehicles for about 8 years and have never had any troubles, i did have a coil fail once that Jolley supplied he did replace it FOC so cant grumble. We have fitted them to many vehicles such as dodges, GMC's etc and they all run very nicely with electronic ignition and as far as i know none of them have had issues.

i have found that it works even better with the timing advanced a bot on the original timing marks, particularly effective on jeeps.

i work on a couple stollys and a STAR 660 that have been fitted with jolleys unit and it has transformed them, they run so much better and start on the button now.
