  1. 2010, I slipped and fell on a ledge while I de iced the 1962 2a army land rover. End of career, end of a easy life.
  2. "so dont take your vehicles and the show will die." For us it is the hopfarm next year. Our (my wife, dad and me) disabilities make it hard to reach the toilets by wheelchair on the Kitchener's field. We use matresses on that same bumpy conditions so it hurts my spine up to screaming point. That is next to the insults I got from the new organiser
  3. welcome on the forum, last year at the W&P we done some business as milk was cool and better than beer in the heat. We do know about the issues you had at this year's show, if you can get a contract with the hopfarm show then we shall see you there next year. Cheers, Arjan.
  4. We as a family won't go. how the new management deals with things something we have a hard time with. The Hollowell steam and heavy horses show is the one we went too last weekend, sitting in the military corner and doing some arena appearances. The last two racecourse shows were hard on my back and the humps of the fields makes it a struggle in a wheelchair. also the garbage burning is something i do not agree with, the bins for plastics, recycle stuff went in the same bulk bag and i did investigate where it got dumped and how that pit had been used for burning.

    Job Offer.

I am in Mablethorpe, that makes the distance a issue. Got my C licence on a Dutch drivers licence ( no points) And I am studying to become a welder. If the pay is good I can get my swb landy on lpg or get my 101fc as camper unit and go home in the weekends.
  6. i would still eat the 1970's tins. about 15 years ago i got a fet tins of cookies dated 1950 from a nuclear shelter. they were dry but still good to eat.
  7. On eBay you do not need paperwork. They are "show" plates. I use them on the road without issues (I hate plastic number plates)
  8. At one point I had seven in the street parked up and all hell broke loose between me, my neighbors and the environmental police. I was allowed to keep two. Put two in storage, scrapped two and gave my dad one. I came at peace with everyone till I bought a sankey and a ya 126 trailer the police forced me to sell. A new fight began. I got married and the wife had her own 109 and 101, we had a 90 together, I was given a 101 as wedding gift, same as a series 3 88. I have had a few, been around the block with repairs too, my first welds were crappy and the result is me learning to be a fully qualified welder.
  9. as a land rover owner i can feel your pain. people call us fools for driving old crap, but in the end, we drive what we like and no outsider criticisms are listened too. in the end, working long days on the seven landies we got keeps me out of the pub and out of trouble.
  10. can you insure it on the chassis number?
  11. http://www.gwneale.co.uk/whitemetals.html not used myself but i have them on my list as my lathe needs babbitt work
  12. No, it isn't just you. We always put a heap of money in to get two to three vehicles in, a 101 ambulance does not run cheap. I see my family that week and take the back ache on the uneven surface as a nessasary evil. Half of the show my wife cannot even get away from the tents as she is half wheelchair bound. I use my wheelchair to get from the bed to my medication and then get breakfast while the morphine kicks in. It is a struggle to be there and the new prices makes me divert to other shows like Hollowel steam and Rushden Cavelcade. I don't know what my dad and brothers will do but it was my wife and my last show at the racecourse.
  13. I love driving old land rovers, 01-04-16 my daily driver turns 41, it goes from a 2,25 petrol to a 2,25 diesel with crashbox. I refuse to buy a new car as they are to plasticy too quiet and to comfy. Out out out of the EU!
  14. so far no reply through facebook, i gave a link to this discussion. after 10 days i should have had a answer me thinks.
  15. For me it is about 3,5 hours drive, perfectly fine for a weekend away. We have a few landies and a sankey trailer. We can combine it with friends visiting and some Dutch food can be made and shared (like my dad did and does on many shows) and I can do with new friends and broaden my horizon.
  16. Charlie, Is it Colin from S+C tat? Or am I wrong here? Anyway, where is the location of your village day? We plan to get in to smaller shows and more steam days. Cheers Arjan
  17. Indeed, a few of those roof racks. If I would have had the space, I would have saved a lot more. My mom went nuts once because I had my spares in the back yard and she realized that the tank like objects she smoked next was in fact 2x 80L lpg tanks. No sense of adventure some . Try to find someone with a greenhouse that has a corner spare. Before that I used "garage de stoeprand" many times and at one point I had seven landies in various states of decay. The council got involved and I was allowed two cars at the roadside at any time. I scrapped one, stored two and had four parked in the street but two were mine as I gave my dad a 101fc ambulance ex baor and a 109 2a ex baor as a birthday gift. A creative loophole they said but okay, just keep the oil pollution under control. In 2010 disability hit, my back completely wore out and a fall on a ledge killed it off. UWV decided I was not allowed to drive my landies, work on them in any way, form or shape. After a suicide threat that if they take that away too I will watch speeding trains from a level crossing. If you ever get the misfortune of getting stuck in their system, suicide and selfharm are cards to play, including a document to send to the press. When I moved to the UK, things went a bit better, pain relief through NHS was 500% better then Holland, I even enjoy summertime tinkering again a good thing as my wife gave me a 101fc ex gulf war ambulance as wedding gift and a friend gave a 88S3 civvie as a gift. Non runners though so work was needed and it never ends. I hope you have a tax exempt diesel, my 88 lw went from exempt to 1500 Euro a year. Sorn (schorsen) was my only option
  18. I own a Dutch lightweight they were fun to have as a toy around 2000. In those days I worked at a small garage, payment in parts that I needed, work was scrap this lightweight and scrap those range rovers. Parts were stored for a year on roof racks for the soft top 109 units, the rear spare wheel carriers got scrapped straight away. I wish I kept a rack for the front, pedestrians will end up like cut eggs when you hit them. How far will you go to restore it? I hope to remanufacture the rack on the front for my 88, I just need it here. Groeten van een Nederlander in Lincolnshire.
  19. As a family we discussed it, we are not attending the show this year. Me and my wife will be doing a few steam rallies with free entry. With the camping gear in another country it means a Travelodge to spend a few nights in. However we will be monitoring how the war and peace turns out.
  20. I want a apprentice position at a machine shop as welding and machining is a passion that I can do.
  21. i rolled my 88LW before. The rollbar mounted on the tub saved me twice as my first roll was during offroading and was because I pushed it to far on a hill in the mud. The second time was during ice road conditions. Both times I got put on my wheels and drove on straight after.
  22. I just got a set of metal plates for my 1975 series3. I had the choice of getting black and silvers but stayed with the original colours.
