  1. Sad to hear she is gone. So much history destroyed by torch and to be converted to razor blades.
  2. http://Www.warandpeacerevival.co.uk it is in july, we camp for a week and fly our flags. if you see a falklands flag flying, you are at the right place. Some land rover parts can be found at dunsfold that have a stall, i got somewhere else a fire extinguisher and a old grease gun for a pound each. plenty of guns, if you break down, get stuck there is help. My toolkit has spare leads, plugs, timing light etc. i had to fabricate a exhaust bracket, i surpriced my fellow campers by fixing it, and fixing the smoke coming from behind the dashboard. It was a trailer socket cable melted on the end can.
  3. Folkstone racecourse, Kent. my dad brings his 101fc from holland, we bring a series 3 109 ex RAF. if needed we can bring extra beer, proper Grolsch , belgium ale and herbal booze to top it up. i can teach you a few things about landies, show you adaptions for disability use etc. if you visit on pancake night, we bake a few for you too, dutch tradition two years ago we had bacon night, 3kg of bacon to be had till the kitchen in the tent caught fire. When we have the generator running battery charge is easy, the petrol genny won't run so i think a stationary diesel would work for that, till i can get a unit on PTO
  4. That is the bonus of having a wife that loves her land rovers. once i get her 2,25 petrol engine build with 5 main bearings and i got the brakes done on my swb, i can start on removing a V8 from her ambulance and strip it with rebuild. The gearbox i will revive too. if you plan to go to the war and peace show, we can meet up for a beer my wife can teach your daughter a few things about being a woman biker too. Cheers, Arjan
  5. Yes, clutch plate was glass and pressure group was burned blue. I had three hours of motorway miles to do but Patch got us home. As for wedding anniversaries i have it easy, my parents got marrued in August, my younger brother shared that date and so did me and the wife. First anniversary gift was a set of hand cut gaskets, to go with free wheel hubs for her i got craft knifes and a heap of gasket papers, another gift was blue role. Handy kit Ebay got the better of me, i bought a lathe, next on the list is a press and i might start a business in repair works. Health and safety beware... I do not master safety
  6. The threaded hole is a plug hole. the wading plug can be seen in the same picture as it is situated close by. put plug in the hole when you go wading, remove it afterwards as sometimes oil will drip out when a) crankshaft seal goes wrong b) clutch slave is f*cked. if you forget to plug the hole and mud gets in, your clutch plate gets a glass coating, ask me how i know.
  7. there is more on this thread that i had to google. i learn a lot from it though so i am happy. please continue conversations about materials and modern replacements, i am buying my first lathe i hope and learn from there.
  8. She got plenty of scars, above the knee amputee. She lhad the luck he started with the brake test as he is scared to drive with the adaptions
  9. In Titmarch Village Hall, 12.00 till 18.00, exhibits 12.00 till 16.00 demonstration of Uniforms talk, why War? How Germany lost in the first 100 days. 16.00 till 17.00 Demonstration of weapons 17.15 till 18.00 bucket collection - proceeds go to Royal British Legion.
  10. My wifes 109 passed on the same thing, same tester and mine failed.I am learning the rules of the UK mot laws, it is weird that he missed it on my wifes It sorted it self out and it is 1/2 pedal pump to get decent pressure. I am not happy about the rolling road park brake test, the gearbox jumps out of gears after the test.
  11. just the promised pictures, i worked hard but failed to get the swb to the mot station. i need to find a more friendly station that does not do park brake tests on the rolling road. for aslong as i have to tell him how to test, adjust etc, it ain't worth it. what are the mot rules on brakes? one pump then pressure is ok? cheers, Arjan
  12. Your not allowed anything there day's. seriously, this is a problem. Not just the fact of a lot of old ammo, the deterioration is a often overlooked is there a safe way to get bombs defused? I still like a few as boundary markers.
  13. Today i did replace the front back plates, the front axle oil was shiny silver... That truck never had a lot of love in it's life. next to do is the rear set, check oil, hub bearings etc, the cylinders are cast iron, that was money spend well. the master is a replacement from bearmach, not a clue on quality, i guess i should be happy it aint britpart. i need to locate a decent pre loved radiator as i hate the plastic ones with a passion. Pictures will follow after my laptop gets fixed!
  14. Deadline met. i kept on going till 23.30... the engine hoist hook failed me, the engine fell on another sump with a tremor going through the wall and setting my wife in panic mode. the engine slipped in smoothly, the oil cooler pipe was 2 inches short but re routing some bits made it fit. all was hooked up and filled , the radiator leaked. out with the old unit, put a weeping one in, worked in the cold till my body gave up. today i had a easy restore health day. tomorrow i need to replace the entire short wheel base brake system, going to be fun, to replace the back plates so the hubs need to come off, bearings repacked with grease, i can check half shafts and have a few days of prepping for mot retest. in the near future i need some 7.50 x 16 spares, brackets to put tools on etc.
  15. Multinational company with three letters... BAM? as a tip, if you can find a bad fuel tank, cut the tank open from the top and use it as a tool box. i had a talk with my wife about your daughter. a bike rider needs to know basic mechanical skill, land rovers are great. if she wants to start on a 125 rev and go, we got one for sale soon.
  16. The duracell filled up where the gardenhose failed, the trailer was allowed a 2000kg load, there was 3250 on there, did motorway miles in holland too at 40mph. with the recovery, that was a steering colum failure, the wheel came up and down if you gave it a spin. It is time to drop a engine in today, tonight it needs to be driving a test round. More pictures to follow
  17. Having Land Rovers, you get friendly with recovery truck drivers road side repairs self recovery is not always handy and your car alarm is old school. another project, 41 painted on a ex army axle... Valves.. as i had no compression on cylinder 1, 2,3 and 4 had around 10 bar each more to follow, i am building a engine out of three blocks, mix and match the parts then replace the seized unit, it needs to run tomorrow night, pictures follow only after the incident with a engine lift hook bend and dropped the engine i was working on, not happy. i was fine, the sump got a dent. after this 109, it is the 88 brakes that need new back plates, hoses master and wheel cylinders and it needs doing before wednesday. i pray for good weather.
  18. if it is cheap enough just buy it. if it is in need of tlc, take pictures and we will help out. i need to get my arc welder in :-) first i need to get a engine ready, i got one with a broken pulley and great bores, another with a good pulley but unknown bores. i will pull the head, if it is ok then do the big end bearings and piston rings, fit military sump and fit in the truck, if the axle parts and paddocks early xmass parcel get here i will be doing brakes and new back plates. shall i make a ongoing thread as well? it gives you something to read. and as i did catch up with the thread, belated happy birthday for your daughter, she looks cute with that hat .. is she interested in technology? you can let her help you fix the landies up, and have a excuse to buy a 3rd one... for her
  19. If it is in good nick, buy it and put the hours in. when your 109 is done then you can decide to keep it spare ( what i would do) or sell it on to make a spares pile for the 109. you take advice from a owner of 5, my wife got 2, i gave my dad 2 so 9 land rovers in total...
  20. Does it matter? Both belong in your life now (looks cute) also, no one complains about same sex mariage when there is a tank involved (sorry had to do it ) as for the my little pony, a purple dragon would have puzzled many for years... Yes i played rather with girls then boys of my age.
  21. It is a shame you don't see those pistons any time soon, they are just lovely it is a nice sight to see bolting parts together, on a different note, were you on the war and peace this year and got a issue with sunk wheels on the last day? i made some film of a old lorry being stuck in the grass, i just loved the sounds it made.
  22. Congrats, and that is indeed a nice cake topper. i hope you two had a good wedding day :-)
  23. some conversions i know of used MB100 parts. might be nice to look in to.
  24. We all make cock ups, it is part of the fun (later in life sitting at the fire with a beer type of story). i had a blown head gasket, replaced it and the result was 3 out of 4 cylinders fired. compression was 0 bar at 1, 10 bar on 2, 9 bar on 3 and 10,3 bar on 4. the pistons wobbled a bit, but from 9 bar to 10,3bar i should had something at no1 cylinder. i pulled the head again and replaced it with a spare one... long shot as i needed to drive 3 hours to pick up our dog from stud duty. motorway 60 mph easy, peak district climbing hills in 2nd and 3rd gear. it runs good now with 9 bar compression at cylinder 1. later in the day i need to get the wife's 2,25 petrol out... make a decent engine out of two. it's never over with a land rover.
  25. A company in the Netherlands makes the kits, Heystee automotive products. http://www.heystee-automotive.com Let me know how it works out
