  1. I am a dutchman too, i just think it is a shame that perfectly good ships get transformed in to razor blades. It would do Mablethorpe some good to have that ship as a museum ship as we need the tourists. as Tesco is planning to invest in the mainstreet i might email them that that ship would be a crown jewel to the town
  2. Most things charity related seems to go quietly. i put in a join group request so i can spam my friends on facebook with it
  3. i hate chrome, i would wire brush it all off and have it nickle plated :-) if i could afford it it would be sand yellow, with black as most is done in a way so it can be reversed. for the rest, it is all part of the history that the vehicle carries.
  4. My dad had his 101fc with him, lovingly restored and on show in the arena a lot. Last year there was a comment on the amount of land rovers at the show. ps, on the 2013 dvd both my wife and my dad gave a interview... We are the lot with a load of flags, including a falklands one big thanks to people near Twickingham offroaders for charging the batteries for us. I need a small diesel engine for that generator cheers. arjan ps if Colin from S&C tat can give me a pm , it is appriciated.
  5. It seems money does not bring happiness, he took the plunge leaving everything he loved behind as the dark cloud in his mind overtook. i will miss him, after all i saw the entire Mork and Mindy series in the 1990's on Dutch TV.
  6. A word only has the value given to it. me as a person cannot live with such imperfections, things are as the should be or leave it completely. Just think about starting to cut out stuff, where does it end?
  7. It was at the Peace section with the aircraft replicas, i made a few notions that they could re write it so Guy Fawkes could be the main figure and war movies don't get nazi's as they offend people too. One of my best friends got a little black dog named Nigger, after the famous one and the black community respects it.
  8. I had a discussion about kids and hot vehicle parts with the wife. we both agree ... let them get burned, it is a learning moment. it teaches them to not touch things (they might lose the other hand too). I do need to state that the wife has zero tolerance for stupid people.:-D
  9. we had 2 vehicles and 4 people going to the show from Ymond region in holland, 1 vehicle and 2 people from Lincolnshire. i think we spend 1500 pounds on transport, forgotten gear replacement, extra ropes , parts during the trip etc. we only do 1 show a year on a scale like this... :-) i will be there next time. from the first show onwards we grew a friendship between us en the organizers. i will not throw it away while the show needs to grow. ps, my main aggravation was the dam busters set up with the dog house with the name Digger. re write the whole past instead of a single name.
  10. I am more in to land rovers, i can understand that some add sentimental value to the asking price. Still i know your Dodge is out there.
  11. Part of the military vehicle game is waiting till you bump in to one. Also try looking on milweb, ebay etc as private sellers might sell cheaper. cheers Arjan
  12. We let kids sit in ours under supervision. they are better behaved then the bare foot climbing without approval types. mentally disabled kids are welcome too, the drool comes off with a cloth, pictures and drawings are received with a warm smile. Red head girls get the special treatment, they are allowed to touch the brake and accelerator pedal, hold the steering wheel and get a drink of choice.
  13. Rex can win, my feedback helps him win it. Traffic in a one way system was better then last year. the Barmy army had a lower volume with their charity evening so that is better. The logistics is hard with site restrictions.
  14. we did not have the show vehicle with us, next year we will do it again. My dad lives in the 101fc ambulance, the bed, gear etc gets put in our tent and he shows it all day near the arena and in the arena. we are making the show happen with our vehicles, lets not forget that.. The living history vehicles is a valid point to show them as the complete set they are in. Cheers, Arjan
  15. the loading of tanks on their transport is one of the things i enjoy watching. on the sunday eve i asked if me and my brothers could fire some rounds with the blankfire guns i got, it got radioed through to Rex and no was the answer, it just stands on mutual respect and how you treat the marshals even when they have a rough day. i had contact with my dad and brothers, we go again the next year, roll on 2015.
  16. It can happen to any charity, i hope the trust is not damaged that bad :-( i still support like i always did.
  17. On my phone it looked like holes where the gasket remains are. tomorrow i can remove a seized 2,25... to see if it can be salvaged.
  18. What are the alternatives? the Poland show? Fuel expense is crippling, the heavy armor stays at home as it is to costly to bring over? what does Mr. Cadman make from the show with all income -expense calculated? i shun the Land Rover shows as it is just the same, steam and heavy horses? might be good.. still for most of my family is the boat a high cost in July.
  19. It made the wife decide that next year i go alone or she sleeps in a hotel. According to Mr. Cadman the ones who did it got punished, but still.
  20. For me it is a place to see family and friends, it cost a fortune to get to the show and stay there but worth it. Yes the Hopfarm was better and filled with memories of a single me with to much money to going with the show just to relax and talk. is there a big show in development more to the midlands? might be fun
  21. A old fashion grease gun for a pound, a bren mk2 deac for 300....
  22. I guess a new head is needed... Never seen a hole where there is one in your picture... tomorrow i plan to pull my S3 head as the bangs getting worse and i expect a hole in a valve.
  23. Who was responcible for the stupid AM fireworks displays??
  24. Had a feeling of failure driving down to the show, 109 ex raf related. we were situated nicely next to fellow imps members, inviting them over by stating imps members are like family members. at the friday when the storm hit we prepped our camp and loaned long pins to the neighbour by hammering them in so the caravan with tent were secured. Saturday was marked by mud and some traders leaving , sunday was a relaxing evening after the neighbour went home. He did tell me to visit him so the Bren i bought could be picked up. Monday we loaded our gear, said goodbye to family and friend, isle of sheppey first stop, a large house with plenty of classic cars , parts etc. i loaded up the bren and mag in the 88, i got offered parts for a series 3 land rover... Plenty series 2, fair bit of series 1 and the odd series 3 bits were taken, including a Austin 7 light switch... I am still shocked about that, same as the dear man was after seeing how i loaded the little land rover... pictures to follow
  25. I was playing in the arena, teaching two to drive land rovers. We saw the storm come in and drove to the tent to hammer pins and roped things down. we used the 88 land rover as a storm breaker as the 12 by 12 did not had storm ropes. the meal we planned to cook was cancelled and went to bed early. no damage was done to our camp, it could easily been worse. on a positive note, i did meet Clive with his shoreland, nice man
