  1. NSN 8340-99-800-0043 FV462749 appears in the FV432 CES for the Penthouse Conversion Kit as "Shelter Canvas; terylene and canvas, 24ft approx W, 14ft approx LG, w/end panel". Unfortunately the drawing doesn't make it clear what it actually does - it's not the penthouse tent itself, which is 8340-99-809-6541. I think it may be the forward part of the shelter that attaches to the rear of the vehicle? Andy
  2. I'd second Clive's comment about looking for things on eBay other than the usual AVO 8s that seem to go for around £80. I've just nabbed myself a very clean AVO 9sx, otherwise known as NSN 6625-99-949-1853, Test Set Multi-Range Pan-Climatic No. 1 (High Sensitivity), essentially a MOD version of the AVO 8. Complete with original leather case and leads for a princely £20! Andy
  3. On investigation it seems that we've made two of these - a green one which has conventional propulsion and the HEDV which is (currently) white. Andy
  4. As Chris says, you don't need a radio at all, just an IB2 or 3 and assorted CB2 or 3s. I'm using an IB3 and four CB2s in my 432, one for driver, one for commander and two in the crew compartment. All the internal cabling and brackets were there already. Here's a link for all you need to know: http://ferret-afv.org/manuals/clansman_wiring_harness_and_control_boxes_description.pdf Andy
  5. In my experience as an electrical engineer, most "electrical" faults are mechanical in nature! Andy
  6. Known as the HEDV (Hybrid Electric Demonstrator Vehicle) IIRC. Six hub-mounted motors with a two-speed epicyclic gearbox in each hub, two 80kW generators and two 80kW Zebra batteries. There's a video here: http://www.qinetiq.com/home/defence/defence_solutions/landjo/HED/HED_demo_movie.html Andy
  7. I don't know anything about Land Rover electrics, but noting your comments about the problem temporarily fixing itself after you'd dismantled it I'd suggest a good look at the cables and connectors might be useful. If you can dismantle the connectors and look inside, so much the better. Andy
  8. PM sent - possibly twice by accident as the site seems very sluggish tonight! Andy
  9. A shame we've already scrapped Fearless and Intrepid or the RAN could have had some ex-RN rust buckets instead! Andy
  10. I'd be interested to know what your boss has got in the way of 432 parts ... Andy
  11. May need some slight restoration .... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12292390 Andy
  12. On a point of order, the DVLA is not a private organisation, it's an Executive Agency of the Department of Transport. That means it is part of government, but it's set up to behave like a commercial organisation to ensure business-like behaviours. If that means making money then I think they're doing pretty well at it! Andy
  13. Is it just me, or has the site been on a "go slow" again for the last two days? Andy
  14. You're a glutton for punishment, Iain! Andy
  15. Hmm - so what do we reckon it is, then? Some sort of capacitor or tuned circuit across the battery terminals? Difficult to see how it could have any effect on a diesel! Andy
  16. What programme is that from, out of interest? And I know we shouldn't engage in politics, but scrapping the TSR2 at that stage in its development was possibly the most stupid thing I've seen a government do. Andy
  17. I think you'll find that's because of the dreaded "diesel bug" - organic biomass that breeds in the fuel and forms black lumps and sludge which eventually block filters and pipes. What interests me is how long this will take to be a problem in the MV community, bearing in mind that the causes are fuel that has been subject to daily variations in temperature and stored for several months without use. Does that sound familiar? :undecided: Andy
  18. Usually known as Nyvin or Unipren? I don't think the original type is still manufactured, but there's some about (thexmod carry it). Unfortunately it's usually in enormous and therefore expensive reels! Andy
  19. Not that I'm aware of. It seems to have turned into business units and a park and ride for Queen Alexandra's hospital. Andy
  20. I keep driving past this several times a week - does anyone know what sort of state it's in? Andy
  21. Yes, I did think something had gone missing! Andy
  22. What's the launcher gubbins on the FV432? Swingfire, perhaps?
  23. The Royal Marines band, fed up with being unappreciated by senior ranks, decided to demonstrate their applicability to modern non-lethal warfare ... Andy
