  1. .. and just to add confusion, this piece of legislation uses the term "first constructed before". Wonderful, isn't it? :-) Andy
  2. Hmm - what do you mean by "identify"? Find a source of the crimp connectors or say which wire does what? Andy
  3. When dismantling anything complicated, take photos before you start. That way you'll know which bit went where when you come to put it back together! Andy
  4. All FV432s have a "Heater" switch on the Distribution Panel (the one with the battery master switch) so I'd assume it should be fed from there? I think there's a connector on the rear of the ventilation fan controller. Andy
  5. Thanks to Oily and all the others who have replied so far! Andy
  6. I may have need to shift an FV432 with a dead pack from Yorkshire to Devon. Any suggestions on likely transport firms? Andy

    Seat Belts

Is there also not something about the seat belt anchorages having to be correctly marked as well? I don't think you can just bolt seat belts on ... Andy
  8. I love the "radiator" - nice lateral thinking! Andy
  9. I'm sure Chris didn't mean it that way - I didn't know what you were painting either! On looking I can now see that you've posted it in the American forum, but to those just viewing "New Posts" it isn't entirely obvious ... :undecided: Andy
  10. OK, got it. Generator Set, Engine Driven (Diesel), 7.0kW 28V DC (NSN 6115-415-3017) manufactured by Parker Keelavite of Warwick for Ptarmigan Packet Switch. It's got a 28V 300A alternator with possible regulator settings of 27.8V, 28.5V and 29.2V, held to within +/- 0.5V over normal speed and load ranges. It has indeed got a Hatz 4-stroke diesel engine. Does that help? Andy
  11. They're quite a nice generator, but unfortunately are restricted to 24V dc so not as universally useful as they might be. Do you have a photo so I can confirm it's actually the one I'm talking about? They usually live on the roof of a SAS/MC FV439. Andy
  12. Not burying crates of Spitfires or Shermans, then? :-D Andy
  13. I'd strongly suggest that you earth the generator frame anyway, in fact I'm pretty sure that the SIP manual advises this. Relying on the lack of earth reference to provide any form of safety is dangerous, especially if you're feeding an electronic load with a switched-mode power supply. These often have RFI filter capacitors fitted between earth and the other lines which will provide a path for the fault current. Double insulated equipment with no earth connection is fine, but for anything else you MUST earth the generator. Andy
  14. "Launceston Steam & Vintage Engine Rally is traditionally held every year over the Spring Bank Holiday. This coming year is no exception, it will be held on Saturday 29th, Sunday 30th & Monday 31st May 2010." Hmm - time to update the website, perhaps? Andy
  15. I'm not sure about the NSN either, but if it's a diesel unit rather than petrol it's a Plessey 3kW 27.25V dc generator driven by a Lister Petter single cylinder 4-stroke diesel. Was there anything specific you wanted to know? Andy
  16. What SIP have said agrees with my thoughts that this isn't an earthing problem at all - it's all to do with current. You need to have at least one device (earthed or otherwise) connected that draws sufficient current for the generator to realise that it has a load. I suspect that if you removed the earth connection from the halogen lamp (safety considerations aside!) it would still work. Andy
  17. An Elefant (Panzerjager Tiger (P)) would be nice, but I'd hate to maintain it! Andy
  18. Just to complicate things, in the Royal Navy manuals are called BRs (Book of Reference) .... Andy
  19. Ouch! The important thing is to keep them charged using a modern pulse charger that knows how to deal with AGM batteries - see other threads for discussions/details. Andy
  20. The Odyssey batteries are manufactured by Enersys, aka Hawker! This looks like their commercial version of the 6TNMF. Incidentally, Terry Brooks has some used but good Hawkers for sale at the moment. Andy
  21. eBay being silly again: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12437602 One thought, though: do replica rocket pods come under the VCR act? Andy
  22. There's obviously a prize waiting for the first person to hide an MP3 player in one of those dummy radio BID modules ... :cool2: Andy
  23. They also do one for the Titanic which I can't help feeling might be a bit too late - perhaps they should have read it before the maiden voyage? Andy
