  1. It's possible that it's a 16-bit TIFF, which you won't be able to save as a JPG until you've converted it to an 8-bit TIFF first .... Andy
  2. Thanks guys! And yes, I know it isn't a weapon, but this seemed the most appropriate thread ... Andy
  3. Does anyone know what weapon this relates to? I thought it might be something to do with the Abbot, but I can't see anything about it in the manuals. Andy
  4. Only just the fact that they exist, I'm afraid. Anything more would probably be rather sensitive anyway! Andy
  5. Various MOD documents refer to EW equipped 432s, so this isn't an isolated case. Oddly enough though, I've only seen references to Mk 2s in that role, not Mk 2/1s. Andy
  6. I think that's an EW fit 432 judging by the labelling on the distribution panel ("Intercept Cabinet"). It's not one of the command variants I've seen recently, they have a larger desk area that extends all the way down the left-hand side and retain the normal folding bench seats. Andy
  7. The RN was still issuing that scratchy hairy battledress back in 1974. Luckily I never had to wear it. And we had the first issue of 5Js (woolly pullies) when no-one knew how to wear them. We started off wearing them tucked into trousers like the old-fashioned seaman's jumpers until someone noticed what the other services were doing! Andy
  8. I must admit that ACPO have been very helpful, batting questions back and forwards to various parties on my behalf. And a nice, sensible logical outcome! Andy
  9. No need for an FoI request - just ask them, which is what I did! Andy
  10. Here's another useful piece of advice on smoke discharger legality, this time from ACPO: Andy 0808 - AFV Smoke Projectors.pdf
  11. So if it's been cut up abroad and then imported to the UK, what's its legal status? Presumably there's no deactivation certificate? Andy
  12. I've used http://www.powweb.com for several years now. They've currently got a half-price offer at $3.88 per month! Andy
  13. HMS Thunderer as in RNEC Manadon in Plymouth? Andy
  14. I've seen several variations on that theme, which makes me wonder if there's any real distinction between the 432 and 436 these days. Does it also have an antenna tuning unit of some kind in the bin to the left of the rear door? Andy
  15. I think it's just a plain old 432 - the last half dozen I've seen have all been different to each other inside! Do you have any pics of the interior? When you say it won't start, does that mean won't turn over or turns over but won't fire? Andy
  16. I did wonder, but same difference really. Trying to charge an open circuit is never a very good idea! Andy
  17. I agree with putting the switch on the earth side, removing the earth reference is always best. One word of warning - make sure that the engine is completely stopped before you open the isolator, otherwise you'll fry your alternator. They don't like having batteries disconnected while trying to charge them. Andy
  18. Just remember that if you move the photos off your PC onto the external drive you've still only got them in one place, so no backup! Buy two external drives while you're about it - they're cheap enough these days. Andy
  19. I've got a single link, but unfortunately it's a four hour drive away! I think I'll just go for 750kg, which unfortunately means two pallets as the usual limit is 1 tonne each. Andy
  20. On the servicing side, apart from the usual daily/weekly checks of levels etc., most items in the schedule are done on a lesser of miles/engine hours/time basis, which means you'll almost certainly meet the "yearly" criterion before anything else. There have been suggestions about modifying the rear engine bulkhead to allow access to the oil filters; if that's done then you'll only need to remove the pack for repairs. I'm sure sharky will be along soon to give you a proper operator's perspective! Andy
  21. Does anyone know the weight of 432 track? I think it's 750kg per side, but I don't know how I came across that figure. I need to tell my local friendly pallet handling firm ... Andy
  22. As a rough guide on transport costs, getting a 433 from Birmingham to Launceston cost me £500. Other quotes were in the region of £800. Andy
  23. But that wouldn't leave them as "under deposit", surely? They'd just be gone! Andy
  24. The difference is that the contam has already had its road duty paid - I'm not sure about the Avtur! Andy
  25. They've been that way for several weeks now, so I'm not sure what's going on. Andy
