  1. Same as antarmike, just the banner at the top of the page comes up:(
  2. The only other thing I could pick out is the heath fire in the bottom left of the photo.
  3. I had a look at the map posted by steveo and noticed that the small symbol near the word sheepfold I thought it was a map mark of some kind. It is actually a physical feature on the ground that can be clearly seen in the 1945 air photo, I wondered if it might be a range marker...... It is harder to see in the 2005 photo Until you zoom in... and realise it is a sheepfold, just as stated on the map:cool2:
  4. More pictures please and, as above, how many places like this exist?
  5. On street view you can see a matador with logging crane alongside another truck that may be the millie.
  6. I second that, I came across my first matador at the age of 7 or 8 in the woods. The local tree surgeons, Dalrymple, were hauling out major oak trees with one, it seemed to spend half its time with its front wheels in the air. It made a lasting impression.
  7. @ bobs, that is very nice do you mind if I attach your photo directly ? I will only do so if you say yes. Regards rog8811
  8. As the crow flies the tanks were less than a mile from where I worked, the local historian knew about those as well, not sure when they were recovered but he would have spoken to me about them around 1970/71
  9. I was about to put this in the new thread but as this is about non tracked vehicles I chickened out and came here;) When I was an engineering sprog I worked in the outbuildings of an old stately home just outside Dorking in surrey. The club house for the company was yet another mansion where all the light switches (old bakalite round ones) were upside down. One of the engineers was a local historian with a vast knowledge of , and collection of, WW2 related things. He told me that the canadians were billeted in the houses (hence the upside down switches) and when they left they buried a large buick car and 2 chevrolet trucks full of kit in the grounds. The buick turned up some years later when ground works were undertaken to put in a new car park, If the truck story is as true as the car they would still be were he showed me.....
  10. The Vehicle in the background here http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/attachment.php?attachmentid=39548&d=1294077320&thumb=1 looks very similar to this modern copy http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/attachment.php?attachmentid=35483&stc=1&d=1285871691 Appears to be being used as a gun tractor.
  11. I see it now, the truck engine was shunted way down the track after the accident, I wondered how it all fitted after just the first couple of photo's.
  12. The only reference for this is "Djbouti" so Gulf of Aden area. Regards rog8811
  13. Rosie said I went to dunsfold one time and saw a whole row of brand new drivable 101 chassis lined up outside... trying to remember if they were waiting for bodies to be fitted or had just had them removed. I seem to remember a photo of this, I will have a look.... Regards rog8811
  14. In the 60's an uncle was in the TA, Reigate depot, I went with him to a christmas party there and for some reason got driven home in a Champ with open sides on a freezing night, it was glorious! Regards rog8811
  15. Still only half way through my copy, best pressie of the year! I too await the next instalment! Regards Rog8811
  16. Didn't these pellets first appear in WW2? I may be completely misremembering but I thought the russians developed them for use, initially, in RR merlin engines. *EDIT* I had a quick google and got loads like this....
  17. @ supertrack I couldn't get you links to work, try this one http://the.shadock.free.fr/Tanks_in_France.html Regards rog8811
