AEC Dorcester "Mammouth"

Would like to forward the question of a colleague who intends to build an 1:6 Model of above vehicle...

Where could one find the exact measurements? Is there even a survivor of this rare type of vehicle?

There is one at Duxford and also one or two in Australia.

I believe there is also one still in a scrap yard in Scotland.

I thought only a dozen or so were built in total. Looks like a high percentage have survived then.

A lot more than a dozen were built.

There was a very good article on the 4X4 and 6x6 version in Wheels and Tracks.

Were they only command vehicles? Or did they get used for other things.

They converted some as a demolition vehicle Tony i will dig the photo i have and post soon as, similar were the deacon and armoured ammo truck

There used to be one behind the long gone junk shop on the Bell roundabout on the old A13 junction with the A176 in what was then the Peoples Nuclear Free Republic of Basildon.

I believe that the Tank Museum have one and that is the one that was at Jacksons. I saw it 30 years at Bawtry.

The 6X6 version pictured was originally at Pounds Scrap Yard. It was then loaned to Bovington and is now either back with Pounds or sold to Rex Cadman.

Any idea how much such an offer should be bearing in mind the recent crash in scrap prices??

It's a shame the axles for it are now seem to be incorrectly mounted on the roof. Looks like a great project though, although not many around as a guide to rebuilding. Anyone have a spare workshop manual??

The leading rear axle is still fitted, you can see the wheel.

Well that's the front and back sorted, hope the middles in there somewhere!

the middle axle is in place as you can see a bit of the mid axle tire in post # 22 so chances are the all the axles are in place and those on top have nothing to do with the vehicle .
