Hi everyone,

Bit late on this one - just caught up with the thread. I own 571 FUF. I have marked it up as Z5813683 based on information from previous owner. However information from RLC museum at Deepcut suggests a different number M5810173 - I thought Morris's would be Z numbers?

This is based on the chassis number 2283/4444 (although the plate in the engine bay has been overstamped - can't find any others!) According to Deepcut the post 1949 identity was 33 YS 72 and it was struck off at Ruddington 23rd October 1956.

The wooden rear body has a contract number plate 23/6450 which ties in with this information being the first contract run (using information from Wheels and Tracks)

Pictures of my Morris can be found at http://www.westlancsmvt.org

From my understanding all Morrisses had a Z contract number, they were produced in 3 batches.

Rick,

The prefix Z was issued to all trucks of under 1 ton load capacity. M was used for cars and light utilities. Probably a slip of the pen, it is not unusual to see the wrong prefix on original photos. Looking at the Census list, both of the numbers come up on the same contract number, which aligns with the body contract number as well.

Hi all. I've been looking through some old photos - probably at least 20 years old - and come across a couple more for your list:

Z307573

Z583525

Of course these may have been repainted in the interim and already be on your list. On this, my photos show Z307573 in two different sets of markings; I've pictures of the Gurensy one in different markings to the earlier photo; and No 14 on the list (Z1633960) I've pictures of it in three different sets!

Just to add to our show case of Moggies, here is some photos of my latest restoration project, it's taken a while, but most is now ready to assemble, and am planning to get it finished for June/July

first photo showes me towing the finished Chassis from my Barn to home where I can work on it, Towed behind our Morris CDFW which make light work of the 3 miles through our village.

the others are of the installation of the Rad and cooling system, Bulk head etc.

Fuel tanks all plumbed in, engine restored.

Next step will be engine runs, then the cab and brake systems.

Rick, can't you remember it in the barn when you got yours?

It was only really a rolling chassis, engine and front end, no cab or rear body.

I have made a new cab from scratch like you, and i intend to build a wooden GS back body for it.

will post some more pics later.

I am having to re register her, she is registered as Q189 RDS and on the V5 listed as a 'REcovery Truck' date of manufacture unknown, I now have notification from the Army records stating that chassis number 2610 was built in November 1944.

Cheers

It seems to have a large following in Oz, I dont know if a large number were transported there.

hi Rick

Well thats probably a understandable mis-read of the situation here . As far as I know I'm the only person in the whole country into military MCC's ... in a serious way . I know of a chap in Wagga with a very rough incomplete CS8 ..he intends to restore it , but he hasn't done anything with it . A guy in Brisbane has a CS8 ..in a million bits without a motor .

In 32 years of MV collecting ..I've only ever seen one MCC military vehicle at a rally here , back in 1985, a club member brought along his amazing SHED FIND CS8...to a airshow , it was later sold to a museum here and still sits there to this day . Its complete and unrestored as is ... this car is an exception as they are normally found as wrecks beyond help .

I'm on my own, as far as research, collecting bits and so on goes. The more 'exotic' makes such as MCC dont attract much attention here in the MV scene ...

Mike, it would be nice to see a photo of that CS8 in the Museum, if it is original ?

Cheers

Jules

I hope to visit the museum one day and take many pics, and draw many drawings and measure everything on it .Its a late production CS8 with full cab and doors etc... these would be rare in the UK I would imagine ? It is over 200 miles Nth ...up on the Murray River border with NSW . We have had hot days for a while ... many over 100F .

A friend of mine let me have a copy of this photo when he was in Korea, and told me he had great fun towing a 17 pounder gun with his morris down hill. as we know they dont stop very well, he nearly jumped out. Has any one got any more photos of 1944 Morris GS trucks they could share in Army use.
