Roof Over Britain
Hi Folks, Heavy Ack Ack is no more, one result of the great crash is that my user name reverted back to my original one taken from the wartime publication about AA command. anyway, while your thinking about what to put on next Mike, here are a couple of pics of my old Matador before it was destroyed in the fire at Dalcrue, this had been converted to a recovery by L W Vass and used by Grahams of Paisley. I rebuilt it in the early 90s to an artillery tractor using the body from a Mk II millitant.

Roof Over Britain
Hi Andy, Aye It did take a bit of getting over. It was a fire in a storage facility, there were about ten trucks lost altogether all belonging to Scottish club members. I'll dig out a couple of pics of the explorer tonight and post them on the explorer gallery. meanwhile here are a couple of pics of the fire. I can just about look at them now without bursting into tears!

LeeEnfield
Though slightly off topic:nono: i have just unpacked i book (havn`t a clue where i got it from ) called ...Characters of Wood, Wurlitzer & Wesley by Maurice Sanders which is basically about timber haulage and has many pictures of converted Matadors, Albions,Karriers and a AEC armoured car which had the turret replaced with a 21 foot jib for loading wood and capable of 60 MPH  Though it is a shame to see how literally the trucks were worked to death:cry: Ashley Think that was the fate of most Brit trucks, imediately post war, Ashley;...hence their scarcety in preservation, today. Roof Over Britain
Did your present Mat come from Roger Shaw, I seem to recognise the reg? It did belong to Rodger Shaw at one time, at least according to the Register list I have, but I bought it from a chap just outside Chesterfield. Incidently, the chassis No. of my old one was 6247. gritineye
This is one of Georges family Matts, the happy chappy in front was a german prisoner of war and reputed to be the best electrician around, probably just changed the generator on the ground beside him. Richard Farrant
(does info on pics say what was on bombed site ?) Andy, That looks like the site of Caffyn's Marine Parade Garage which was bombed in 1943. You can identify it by the remains of the end wall. Take a look at their history; www.caffyns.co.uk/caffyns-caffyns-in-war.asp Richard
N.O.S.
Talking of timber trucks, here is a pretty looking example snapped at Geoff Rhodes' yard in early 2000's. It got a quick bit of first aid and a change of boots there before moving on. Any ideas on history and current home?
