Anyone got any idea what this is and what it was used for?

My boss has bought it for his son to play with.

There is a plate on the side of the controls that says its Helicopter portable but the rest is covered in paint.

interesting looking beasty wonder how it rides ? with only tires for suspension must hop a bit on rough ground , any idea on its speed? 10 - 15 mph perhaps ? could use a roll cage just in case .

It wasn't intended to travel very far, just to travel from the helicopter to the IED & carry the EOD equipment. Weighed 390kg could carry a load of 410kg. Driven by a 28hp Citroen petrol engine, chain driven to provide 4x4.

Clive,

In design principle, it looks like the Mk1 Supacat, which was lousy on hard surfaces. They used Citroen engine and transmission, chain drives and the steering was by braking the drives shafts. On tarmac / concrete, it would only want to go straight.
