Jessie The Jeep
In the mid to late 1970's there was a BBC??? TV show set 'aboard' a Royal Navy Land Station. The very first episode began with a confused young Royal Navy recruit getting a taxi to his 'ship', but ending up being delivered to the Land Station in the middle of the moors, and wondering if he was in the right place! The front titles of the show featured two animated warships shooting it out, one of which sunk by the end of the titles, 'though you were never quite sure each week which one it would be. Can anyone remember this program, the title, who was in it etc??? I'm 99% sure I'm not making it up!! Steve
fv1609
Relax, you are not mad! It was the TV version of "The Navy Lark" http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/comedy/progpages/navylark.shtml
Jessie The Jeep
I had a feeling the program was called "HMS ???????????" something, but can't remember what. I seem to remember it being a colour production too. Steve
Tony B
The REAL thing is being repeated on BBC 7 radio on Thursdays, or listen agin. Still funny after all these years.
sean101ryan
I remember the series, but not the name. Recruit got very confused when reprimanded for not saluting the quarterdeck! Was on around the same time as 'Get Some In'?

woa2
I vauguely remember a Comedy show about a Navy shore station in the early 1960s. Unfortunately I can't remember it's name, but I think it was on ITV. Definitely pre colour TV days though.
Jessie The Jeep
I'm 99% sure the show was colour, and it was certainly shown in the 1970's, because I was only born in '69. Remembering shows from before then has been difficult for me! I don't believe it was a repeat from the '60's or chances are, it would have been B&W. Jessie The Jeep
OK, so 13 years have gone by and I think I've tracked down the TV show I was thinking about at the start of the thread. The time of broadcast, plot and characters all seem familiar. It was ( HMS ) Thundercloud, a Yorkshire Television production, shown in 1979. It was filmed at a real Royal Naval Land Station, HMS Forest Moor - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Forest_Moor A few details can be found here - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0395904/ and a little here - https://www.comedy.co.uk/tv/thundercloud/

andym
Not a comedy, but I wish they'd repeat Warship from the 1970s. Andy
